“Greetings, my Luna, how are you?” Athena greets me politely.
“I’m good.”
“What brings you here, my Luna? Are you here for our Alpha?”
“No, Athena. I’m here to clarify some facts with Jessica. Actually…” Something suddenly comes to my head, “Presumably, you are one of those who knows her the best in this pack. Am I right?”
“That is correct, my Luna. I do happen to know some details about Jessica, because of the farce she once had with our Alpha.” Athena replies.
“Good!” I feel like I could finally find the answer that I have been looking for. “So, could you tell me why Jessica thinks that Albert is her mate?”
“Because she has Asperger’s syndrome.” She answers and then further explains.
“She was self-abased when she was a kid. In that phase, she used to keep to herself. It’s later that she started opening up. Everything was going smoothly until she turned eighteen. When she saw Albert for the first time, her mind made her believe that he was her mate. Maybe something in her is making her believe that our Alpha is her mate.”18
It takes me a few minutes to grasp the information that Athena provided me about her.
“Thank you, Athena, I know it all now.” I bid farewell with her and head towards Jessica’s home alone.
When I am near her house, I knock at the door. A while later, Jessica comes to answer the door.
“What are you doing here?” She furiously asks.
“I’m here to tell you what you wanted to know.” And I start telling her the reason why I lied to her and everything that can clear things between us.
When I’m done, I wait for her to say something but she doesn’t. So I finally say goodbye to her. As I leave the house, I come across Albert. He asks, “What are you doing here?”
“I came here to talk to Jessica.”
“How did it go?”
“I don’t know. I told Jessica everything and she didn’t say anything to me. She just went inside her room,” I reply. “I should go.”1
“I’ll come with you.”
This time I don’t refuse him. I let him accompany me to my pack.
“She was never after Luna’s position. She was never pretending to be your mate,” I tell him as we continue walking.1
“I know.”
“You know what?”
“I know about her condition.”
“If you knew about her condition then why did you accuse her of being after Luna’s position?”
“I never accused her of anything. When my family and friends came to know that Jessica likes me, I told them that she is not my mate. So, they assumed that Jessica must be pretending to be my mate just to get Luna’s position.”
“And you never corrected them?” I interrupt him.
He further explains, “Before I could correct them, I was informed that Alexander had escaped the prison. And finding him was more important than correcting my family and friends. That night, when we were searching for Alexander, I came across you and I wanted you to stay away from me. I didn’t know that my sister Ania would invite you to stay at the pack house. She wanted us to get together so I used her assumptions against herself and told ehr that you were trying to fool her just like Jessica.”7
I stop walking and turn to face Albert. “Have you told you sister and friends the truth about Jessica?” I question.1
“No. I haven’t.”
“Then you should.”2
“I will.”
We resume walking towards my pack.
As I enter my pack house, Steve starts teasing me. “So, Albert accompanied you again. What’s going on between you two?” 3
“Nothing is going on between us,” I tell him.
“I don’t believe you.”
“Then don’t.”
“Elizabert forever!” He shouts in excitement.100
“Elizabert?” I ask in confusion.2
“Your and Albert’s ship name,” he answers.14
I shake my head in amusement.
Steve continues having fun with me. “Elizabert is a better ship name or Elizabert?”65
I throw the cushion pillow at him which he easily catches. “Stop with these shipping names.”
