Sarah heard the unmistakable high pitched laughter of her mother. “Girls, this gentleman insists it’s time for Elly to leave. Sarah? Can you hear me?”Elly spun around and started to laugh. “He’s pissed at me! I’ve probably been in here for like fifteen minutes!”She and Sarah rushed down the stairs. But instead of running into the open arms of ‘the Boy with the Beautiful Name’, Sarah was forced to stop at the end of her staircase. And silently watch. Elly folded herself against Bent’s strong frame. She wrapped her arms around his waist and smiled at Sarah’s mother. “Well it was lovely to meet you, Bent,” Mrs. Smith said. She had her professional face on, which she used when speaking to her most important clients. “You, too, Mrs. Smith,” Bent said. He sounded genuinely polite.Mrs. Smith nodded to Elly. “Good to see you again, Elly.” ‘You, too,” Elly giggled. Sarah’s mother had kept tabs on the girls Sarah’s brother dated. Ensuring Charles didn’t break too many hearts was in her best interest. Charles had only dated Elly for a couple months over the summer. The two had worked as lifeguards at the local summer camp. Mrs. Smith had only met Elly a few times.Sarah studied Bent’s face. He looked very uncomfortable with Elly wrapped around him, while in the presence of Sarah’s mother. Bent’s eyes panned towards Sarah by the stairs. He seemed to look past her at nothing in particular. “Okay, we better get going. We have a reservation at the grill. Bye!” Elly said. As she spun to head out the door, a furious bark sounded from the other room. The Smith’s family dog, Trash, bounded into the foyer. Although he was a golden retriever, Trash was true to his name. He was a home wrecker. He’d been Charles’ dog. When the dog spotted visitors at the front door, he ran. “Trash–NO!” Mrs. Smith cried. She made a swipe at the dog’s collar, and missed. Sarah watched in horror as Trash leaped high into the air. The dog’s enormous paws were aimed right at Bent’s chest.Do you ever feel sad when your crush is with someone else? It hurts mega baaaaaad.
