When Sarah walked into Bent’s kitchen, she first saw Erna. “OH!” Sarah exclaimed. She hurried over to the android woman. But before she could hug her, Sarah stopped abruptly. “Wow, sorry. I almost forgot you don’t like hugs.”Erna’s head rotated on her metal body so that she faced Sarah. The android did a slight bow. “I have been reprogrammed. I now accept hugs.” Sarah’s mouth fell open. She glanced curiously at Bent.He stood lounging against the kitchen island. He had a slight smirk on his face as he typed into his phone. “W-who r-reprogrammed Erna?” Sarah stammered. She was too amazed to speak. Bent met her gaze. “I did,” he said. Sarah furrowed her brows. “What? You know how to reprogram an android?”He nodded. “I told you before. I’m well-versed in complicated machinery. It happens to be a natural talent of mine.” Aside from your naturally good looks, Sarah thought. Not to mention smooth demeaner, stupendous grades, incredible soccer skills, voice like an angel…Sarah blinked, realizing she’d spaced out and was unknowingly staring at Bent again. She quickly averted her eyes, but not before he’d started to chuckle at her sudden nervousness. Cautiously, Sarah put her arms around Erna’s neck. It was somewhat awkward to hug an android. Mainly due to the fact that Erna didn’t bend down to reciprocate the hug. She stood stiffly against the wall. Her metal body was also cold. But Sarah really didn’t mind. She was too overjoyed.”Thanks, Erna,” Sarah said. Bent’s other android assistant, Jay, walked into the room.”JAY!” Sarah screeched. She ran up to the male android. “Wait–No!” Bent yelled. Too late.Sarah flung her arms around Jay and hugged him, too. “What’s this?” Jay asked aloud. The lights in his eyes flashed on and off.”It’s a hug, Jay,” Sarah said, giggling. “A hug? How peculiar.” The android studied her face closely. “Ah, you’re the girl called Sarah,” Jay said. His metal arm patted her on the back. “Yes!” Sarah said happily. Bent waved his hand in the air. “Can you cut that out? You’re going to break him,” he said.Sarah glared at Bent. “I am NOT! A hug never hurt anybody.”Jay, at hearing Bent’s command, immediately marched over to him. The android did a slight bow. “Of course, Mr. Prince,” he said. And then Jay hugged Bent!Sarah’s face was probably just as surprised as Bent’s. Jay released him and went to stand against the wall beside Erna. Bent rubbed a hand over his face. “Great. Thank you for teaching Jay how to hug. ” I’ll have to reprogram that horrible habit out of him,” he said. “I had programmed Erna to only hug you, Sarah!”Sarah started to crack up. “Oh my gawd, I’m so sorry,” she said, giggling hysterically. “It seems today is my ‘break all of Bent’s machines’ day.” Bent sighed. “Look, it’s fine. Have a seat. I’ll get us food, all right?” He pointed to the chair Sarah sat in before that was situated in front of the floor to ceiling windows. Sarah grudgingly obeyed. She felt like an idiot. But part of her was beyond pleased that Bent would actually take the time out of his precious, unbelievable life, to reprogram Erna so she could hug!!!Bent turned his attention to Jay. “Please go to my room and pack my navy blue bag for Miami. Stick to suit trunks, my tux, shades…the usual,” he said. He checked his phone. Since his head was down, he failed to notice that Jay had approached him. To Sarah’s absolute delight, the android, AGAIN, hugged Bent. “Of course, Mr. Prince. Right away. I will pack your suitcase to your satisfaction.” The android released him and walked away towards the living room. The boy with the beautiful name was so shocked by the second hug, he stood frozen in place. Sarah had her fingers pinched over her nose. She was dangerously close to exploding into laughter. Finally, after what seemed like forever, Bent moved. He slowly set his phone down on the marble countertop. “Erna, please go pack my bag instead. Tell Jay I need to see him,” he said smoothly. The android woman bowed. “Yes, Mr. Prince.” She left the room. Bent studied Sarah from across the kitchen. “You think this is funny, do you?” he asked. Sarah pulled her hands away from her nose. She burst out laughing. “Oh my gosh. That was soooo funny. You should have seen your face! You were SO MAD!” Bent licked his lips, watching her with narrowed eyes. “I swear, if I get one more hug from Jay, I think I’m going to –” he paused thinking. “You know what? Forget it. JAY WHERE ARE YOU?” Bent yelled. The male android appeared back in the kitchen. He bowed. “Mr. Prince, please let me know how I can be of further assistance.” For the third time, Jay attempted to hug Bent. But before Jay could loop his metal arms around him, Bent grabbed Jay…and punched a button on his neck, switching him off.
