Chapter 194

Sarah sucked in air.For some reason, Bent didn’t react at all to seeing the girl. He simply sighed and combed his fingers through his tousled, silken hair. “Well?” the blonde repeated. She stomped her foot, impatiently waiting for one of them to answer.Sarah bit her lip. What could she say?”Beeeentleeeey! This is totally be-jeezus, unbelievable. I’m feeling quite off the roof with confusion here,” the girl said. Sarah lifted an eyebrow. The girl turned her stormy face towards Sarah. It was that blonde lookalike Wonder Twin! “Go, I’ll distract her,” Bent whispered. Sarah stifled a giggle as she darted up off the couch. She hastily grabbed her costume off the floor and ran from the room. Behind her she heard Bent say, “Come on, Carmen. You and Alicia both know I–” Sarah didn’t hear the rest. The bouncer outside The Cave grabbed her by the shoulder. “You need clothes, Miss,” he growled. Sarah stopped dead in her tracks. “Oh, right. Sorry.” She flung her rumpled nurse costume over her head and quickly buttoned it.This bouncer probably thinks Bent and I hooked up. OMG I am SO not that easy, Sarah thought in dismay. She had just turned to go when Erin slammed into her. “CHICA! Where have you BEEN? I’ve been looking everywhere for you!” Erin’s right braid had come undone and her Little Red Riding Hood cape was twisted strangely to the side. “Oh really?” Sarah said. She poked a finger at Erin’s wrinkled dress. Erin rolled her eyes. “Please. My make-out sesh with Trev…that happened SO five minutes ago.” She waved a hand in the air. “Anyway, Pam called. She LOVES our costumes,” Erin said. She had to yell to be heard over the music. “The grill closed early for Halloween tonight. So Pam and Patrick are both out on the town.” She snickered. “And get this, they’re in a couple’s costume, too. Only they’re dressed up as a librarian and a book.” Erin kept her face neutral. But then she burst out laughing. “Pam’s the book!” Sarah started to giggle, too. While she and Erin loved Pam to pieces, they both knew that Pam could never pick out a decent Halloween outfit. “I’m sure Pam makes a book costume look great,” Sarah said.Erin held up her phone to show Sarah a picture. Pam and Patrick were holding each other and smiling. Patrick wore a gray suit and tie. He had tiny spectacles perched on his nose. He still looked cute, especially with his crooked little tooth and forest green eyes. Pam, however, was practically hidden inside her huge costume. To top it off, a big plastic bookworm was sewn into the side. “Well, if Patrick thinks she looks awesome, that’s what matters,” Sarah said. “But let Pam know you and I are going to choose her costume next year.”Erin gave her an air five. “Totally with you, Chica.” She dropped her phone back into her small purse. “All right. It’s Halloween. We’re in Miami. We’re in a nightclub. LET’S DANCE!”Erin took Sarah’s hands and started to spin her around. Sarah did a twirl, giggling heartily. As she took Erin’s hands to help her friend spin, she locked eyes from afar…with Bent. He stood like a sculpted marble statue, watching her intently. Even in the sea of dancing bodies around them, his glowing chocolate milk eyes melted her insides completely, sending her heart racing into a fluttering fury. He winked at her.Sarah attempted a wink back, but her glued on fake eyelash seemed to catch. She pushed the eyelash out of her eye and saw Bent laughing. His eyes sparkled under the neon lights. The two Wonder Twins had their arms wrapped around him. One of the girls whispered into his ear. He said something back that caused the girl to scowl. When his eyes flitted back towards Sarah, they had resumed their sparkle. Erin pulled Sarah out of her dreamy trance by spinning her around again. “Your nurse costume is really wrinkled, Chica. What happened? Did you cross paths with a super sexy someone special?” Erin’s face blanched as realization dawned on her. Sarah closed her eyes and reopened them. Erin didn’t miss a thing.
