I was in a room. It was dark; I turned my head and smelled blood. My eyes were still closed and I didn’t want to open them, but I could see the darkness behind my eyelids. Maybe it’s because I’m dreaming. I feel like I have no control over my body. I feel overwhelmed. I hate feeling like I can’t control myself. My other senses are heightened and I can smell blood around me, which I don’t think is a good thing.
I kept hearing a faint beep. I heard whispers, tickling my ears, when my eyes attempted to open on their own accord; I saw a strange scared face looking down at me. He had a scary face; I knew it wouldn’t leave my memory. He was a muscular man, in his 30’s or 40’s. It was hard to tell.
“Wake up princess.” He said. “Let me see those eyes again.” He forced my eyes open. I saw shadows crossing over his face.
“Aw is the princess awake?” I heard to my left. It was Ruth, the woman I use to call mother. She was doing this. How could I not have known? I could not turn my face to look at her, I was so scared. I felt my body shake. I still had no control of my body or anything else around me.
“What’s happening hunny.” I heard the scar face man ask. He was talking to Ruth. Calling her hunny?
“This was not supposed to happen!” she screamed a step back. I can feel my power arising. The elements inside me weaving together like threads, then burst out to push away anyone who near me. Then I heard something was beating inside my belly.
“Her heart beat is speeding.”
“How is she? Is she in pain?”
“Why is she screaming and shouting? Sedate her!”
“No, she hates needles, don’t hurt my mate.”
I stopped shaking. My eyes snapped open. After a while, my heart went back to normal only to be plunged into darkness once again.
I was drawing back into consciousness, I had a headache so bad I did not want to move my head in fear of making it worst. I opened my eyes but did not move my head. I moved my hands up to my head rubbing my temples, only to hear people shouting “she’s awake.” My headache got a bit better, I guess they gave me some pain killers through the drips, I was not paying attention. I was still in a hazy state. I felt someone’s hands rubbing my head replacing the job of my hands. I felt my hands being lifted to the tips of someone’s lips and knew these were the hands and lips of my mates. The thought alone gave me comfort.
I don’t how after being asleep so long I could be tired. I let my eyes droop, knowing my mates were by my side.
When I woke up, I found out that I was in my bed room.
“What happened?” I asked in a raspy voice full of sleep.
“Ruth was here. We do not know why she is here, but she is hiding and a threat. We cannot find her.” Evan said. I sat straight up but then regretted it; I lay back down and turned to my side, to face away from Evan. I let the tears fall out of my eyes; I was beginning to feel safe. I was beginning to enjoy life once again. My vision blurred, but I blinked as soon as I saw Edwin came into view. I tried to blink my tears away.
“Don’t hide from us Lia, it hurts.” I felt guilty and allowed myself to be hugged closer to their warm body. I cried into their shoulder. When I felt better for words, they spoke to me.
“We are sorry; I do not know how she got into the kingdom. We thought she would n longer be a threat. We spoke to your father and he had no idea how it happen. ” Edwin said. I nodded; maybe I was not better for words. But I spoke anyways.
“She was there. And a man.” I said.
“But we only smelled her scent.” Evan said confused.
“I was in a dark room, paralysed. It felt so real. He was there. She was there.” I continued.
“I do not understand. Who was he.” Edwin asked.
“I don’t know. He had scars on his face. It was too dark. It felt so real.” I told them.
“You are safe now Lia. You would not be going back to that place.” He promised me. “You would not be going back to school.” He continued. I had no objections to that. I buried my head in Edwin’s shoulder, only to be lifted and taken into our bathroom. After they undressed me, they laid me into the warm bath filled with water. I felt scared thinking they were going to leave me. They undressed, entering the bath tub. The action reassured me. They held me between them.
When we finished, I got dressed for a dinner we were going to have. It was with the principal of the school and his daughters. Evan and Edwin were going to cancel it, but I told them I felt up to it. We were informed that our guests had arrived. I held my mates hands and we walked to the ground floor, the dining room. When we entered, I saw Diana, smiling at Evan and Edwin. She had yet to acknowledge my presence.
“Hello Edwin and Evan, long time no see.” She said.
Next to her were a girl, who looked disgusted and her father with a smile on his face. I guessed that was the reason she thought she owned the school.
“Hello Diana.” They both said in an annoyed voice.
“Principle Dickson. Nice to see you again.” Evan said on behalf of himself and his brother. They shook hands.
“Hello Lia, I’m sorry your first day did not go as well as we hoped.” Mr. Dickson said. “This is my younger daughter, Daisy, Daisy, this is Queen Lia.” He said pointing at his younger daughter. I saw Diana flip her hair.
“Nice to meet you, Daisy.” I said with a smile. She looked disgusted with her sister; she was good in my books.
“Hi. I want to apologise on behalf of my sister. She is…” Daisy started interrupted.
“Enough Daisy.” Her father said, making this seem like a normal occurrence.
“Okay, dinner should be ready.” Edwin said, bringing my fingertips to his lips then leading me to the table. After dinner, my mates went to their study to talk to the principle, leaving me with the two sisters.
“So, how old are you?” I asked Daisy, I could not guess her age easy.
“I’m 16. I loved your dress that night you became queen.” She emphasised queen for her sister sake. I looked at Diana, only to catch her rolling her eyes.
“Yeah, Evan has great taste.” Diana said. I wondered how she knew, but let it go.
“I know, he has picked out all my dresses, and they all looked beautiful.” I told her with a smile. She looked angry at my smile. I knew that she had read about that fact from tabloids, so her being angry at her failed attempt made me smile more.
“Please excuse me; I need to find the bathroom.” Daisy said with an asking look. I gave her a nod to tell her she can leave my presence. She graciously walked out of the room. The atmosphere became tense.
“You’re so sad you know. You blacked out for days because of your fear. Its funny.” Diana told me taunting and laughing. “You think you are queen but I know better. Your mates were supposed to be mine.” I stood up with so much force the chair moved back.
“I am queen and I deserve your respect.” I told her in an alpha voice. I was not going to let what happened to me be held against me.
“I don’t understand why your mother was begging to see you again.” She said in a low voice. I was shocked. Did she mean Ruth?
“Ruth came to you?” I asked, my heart rate speeding.
“Yeah she promised I will have Evan and Edwin back. Bitch was fake, just like you. The only good thing I got from it was not seeing your face for a day.” She sneered. I stood back, but then remembered who I was. She had an evil glint in her eyes.
“GET OUT!” I shouted. I no longer wanted her in my presence. Evan, Edwin, Mr. Dickson and Daisy came through the door. I was breathing hard.
“I said get out.” I said in a more steady voice. I looked out of a window, refusing to look at her anymore. I saw Evan and Edwin shaking the principle’s hand. When everyone was gone my mates came to my side. They hugged me.
“Lia, what happened?” Edwin asked me, moving my hair from my face.
“She did it, she allowed Ruth to enter the school.” I told them the conversation that was between us, and they began to shake, but they hugged me closer.
For the rest of the evening, we stayed watching a movie in the living room. They promised they will sort everything out, and punish Diana.
“A pack from another state is coming to stay with us; it is a small pack but strong pack. Too small, we are thinking of joining the packs together, they may not stand an attack.” Evan said. Is that alright with you?
“Yes, this place is big and too empty for my liking.” I laughed a bit. I felt myself drowsing, not really paying attention.
“I love you.” Edwin whispered into my ears. My fingertips rose to Evan’s lips. I gave a small smile before I blacked out. In their arms.
