*One Week Later*
“Kate, can you pass the cereal?”
“Melanie! Give me the spoons!”
“I swear to the gods Diana, if you don’t give me the milk, there will be hell to pay!”
“That’s naughty language!”
I slammed my hands on the table and everyone’s eyes landed on me.
“Okay! Kate, give me the cereal, Melanie, give Kate the spoons, and I’ll give Melanie the milk. And Allison, honey, these two use curse words a lot, so there’s no stopping them.”
Allison shifted on her crutches as we all made the switch. “Poopy.”
Us three girls were taking a break from helping around the pack recover when Allison was dispatched from the hospital. She immediately came to the pack house while on crutches when we were grabbing some breakfast. I’ve got to say though, I’m glad that Allison is back to her old self. I remember how when we first met, she was so cute and adorable, but as time passed, she became mysterious and insanely mature. It was scary. But, ever since she was dispatched, she was back to cute and adorable.
Puppy Eric scampered into the room when we all got settled at the table and began to eat.
“Puppy Eric!” Allison squealed. “I’ve missed you!”
pup face leapt onto the table and curled up into a ball.
“So,” Kate started. “Did you guys ever find Paul?”
I shook my head. “No, we’ve been searching the forest but… It’s just useless.”
“So wait…since that one guy, Paul, is gone, that means we’re done with all that jealousy crap, right?”
I chuckled as I took bites from my Lucky Charms. “Of course. Paul was the only guy I knew from my pack. I wasn’t really sociable.”
They all began to crack up. But that soon ended when Christopher walked into the room.
“Alpha.” The both said simultaneously before breaking out into hysterics.
“Guys, really? Show a little more respect to me.” Christopher pouted while crossing his arms. “I’m a big boy!”
I joined into the hysterics before standing up and kissing my mate on the cheek. “Sure you are.”
He beamed as he leant down and kissed my forehead. “I swear I am.”
“No PDA!” Allison squealed, covering her eyes before running out of the dining room and into the living room where the rest of the boys lounged around.
Christopher chuckled before gently lifting up my sleeve, exposing my shoulder which now had a patch on it.
“How’s the bite doing?”
I shrugged and drank the rest of the milk from my bowl before answering. “I don’t know. Sometimes there’s a sharp pain in it, but that’s probably from any remaining silver…right?”
He nodded. “Yeah. We’re going to have to take you to Gianna and see if she can do a spell to remove any fragments that remain.”
I sighed as I placed my bowl into the sink. I haven’t seen Gianna in a week, and I was scared. I had to confront her about a very important issue, but I’ve just been procrastinating. I didn’t want to do it.
“I’ll go see her today.”
“Do you want me to come?” Christopher questioned.
I shook my head. “No, I think I can do it. Besides, I have to be independent.”
He chuckled before his face turned serious. “Diana, I need to tell you something.”
I nodded, but he didn’t continue. Instead he looked over at Kate and Melanie. They got the hint and left.
“Christopher?”
He sighed and shoved his hands into his pockets. “We found Paul.”
I froze and heaved a sigh. “Is he alright?”
Christopher shook his head. “Diana… He was found dead. We think he killed himself.”
“Why would he?”
My mate sighed. “They say when your mate either rejects you or dies, you feel a pain a hundred times worse than being shot with a silver bullet. It drives you to insanity.”
“He was already insane.”
“I’m sorry Diana.” Christopher said while rubbing my back.
“I just wanted to apologize to him so that-“
I suddenly gasped and gripped my shoulder. The silver was acting up again, making me have sharp pains.
“Diana!” Christopher tried to grab onto my waist but I just pushed him away.
“No, I’m fine, really. I’m just going to go see Gianna now.”
“Are you sure you don’t want me to come with you?”
I nodded and made my way to the door. “I’m sure.” And with that, I left the pack house and searched for the witch.
Gianna was easy to find. Or maybe, I was. Maybe she felt that I needed her and met me at the park, because when I arrived she was already waiting expectantly.
“Why hello Luna. Fancy meeting you here.”
I smiled. “Yeah. I was wondering if you could help me with my shoulder.”
She nodded and lifted up my sleeve, observing the wound. “Silver?”
“Silver.”
Her stormy grey eyes flashed with something unknown before she placed a hand on the wound. Immediately I felt sharp pains before it subsided.
“Done?” I questioned.
She nodded. “Indeed, but there will be a scar. In fact, it’s a silver scar from the amount of silver that was building up in there.
I heaved a sigh once I remembered what I had to ask Gianna. How was I suppose to do it? Do I just come out with the question?
“Is something on your mind?” She questioned.
I nodded and before I knew it, I blurted out the question.
“Are you my mom?”
The witch smiled as her form began to change. Her hair turned brown and her eyes turned green while the rest of herself began to restructure.
My mother was now standing right in front of me.
“I told you, I will always be watching over you.”
“How?” I gasped. “I saw you die!”
“I’m not alive, sweet heart. I guess you can say that I’m like a restless spirit.”
“So…” What else should I say? I didn’t even think that my own mother would be a ghost.
“My time here is coming to an end, Diana.”
“Why?” I questioned.
She smiled and brought me into a hug. “I was only supposed to stay to watch over you. When you met Christopher, that was my dead line, but then that other boy, Paul showed up. I had to stay to make sure you were safe.”
I pulled away when a bright light hit my eyes. But it wasn’t the sun. No, my mother was glowing.
“Is this how it ends?” I asked. “I finally get to see you again but you’re going to leave? I still have a question that I want answered!”
Mom chuckled. “I’m believe I already know the question.”
I shook my head before looking into my mother’s eyes. “Is dad still alive?”
“We were told by the elders that he had died protecting the pack. But when I died, I felt him. He is indeed, still out there.”
“Where? Where can I find-“
I stopped speaking when mom’s body began to turn to dust.
“I believe this is where we part. Please do tell Christopher that they will be needing another pack witch because I retired.”
“But-” I felt tears began to build up. “I want you to stay.”
Mom smiled, but I think I saw her crying. “I can’t sweet heart…. I love you.”
Her body crumpled into dust before the wind picked it up and carried it away.
Tears were already spilling when I sat and slouched on a swing. “I love you too.”
“Diana? Are you okay.”
I looked up from my feet and saw Christopher standing over me.
Nodding and wiping my face, I responded. “Yeah, I’m just sweating…from my eyes?”
My mate chuckled before sitting on the swing next to me. “You sure?”
“Yeah… Um, Gianna wanted me to tell you that you’re going to need a new witch. She retired.”
“Are you serious?” Christopher sighed over dramatically. “Do you know how hard it is to find a witch? They’re like a freaking rare species!”
I laughed and leaned my head onto his shoulder. “She also said that my father is still alive.”
“Really?”
I nodded. “So, what now? Everything is back to normal, right?”
“Yeah, I was wondering the same thing… Um, Diana, can I ask you something?”
I looked up at him and nodded. And that’s when I realized something. He was really tense and gripping so
something in his hand.
“I was wondering if you would…you know…marry me?”
My heart beat picked up speed as he showed me a ring. Was he really asking? He could just slide the ring on my finger for all I care.
I nodded frantically as he took my hand, sliding the ring on my finger, before pressing our lips together. But the kiss was brief.
“Christopher, can you promise me that after the wedding, we can look for my father?”
He nodded. “I promise.”
