Chapter 41

After what felt like forever, Sarah heard Elly’s loud voice call out, “OLLY OLLY OXEN FREE!” The group of girls all wobbled crazily back into the center of the lawn.Sarah wasn’t sure why she’d felt funny. Because now she felt great. Better than great. She felt ALIVE!Elly clapped her hands. She started to crack up and had to hold up a hand while she laughed. She was very definitely tipsy now. “Ladies, hot ladies. Kimber tagged Layla. So Layla has to drink,” Elly sang.Eat that, Layla-Bo-Bayla, Sarah thought happily. Karma sure was a b*tch. Layla grudgingly drank a few sips from her bottle. Elly handed her a shot, which Layla took. “All right, time for game number two…” Elly paused to laugh again. In fact, all the girls were laughing. Including Sarah. For some reason, Sarah now found everything HIL-AR-IOUS. And she had a TON of energy. “What’s next, tell us! TELL US!” Sarah shouted. She jumped up and down eagerly. The group of tipsy girls stared at Sarah. Trish and Elly started to laugh again. “Thank you, Sarah. Nice enthusiasm,” Elly said, screeching with laughter. “Next up, let’s see what we have.” Elly peered down at the new card in her hand. She couldn’t read it, her eyes were probably blurry, so she had to bring it up closer to her face. “Ooooh shhhhh*t!” Elly called out to the group. “What is it?” Sarah called. She started to clap her hands impatiently. And jumped up and down again. The other girls stepped closer, waiting to hear what Elly said. Elly raised her eyes and gazed out at the group. Her face broke into a sick smile. “My lovely honey dew drops,” Elly said. She cracked up again. “The next game is going to be SO much fun.” “Tell us! What is it?” Kimber called.”Follow me,” Elly said. The group walked back into the guest house. They sat down around the small living room couches. Elly perched on a fluffy stool in front of the television. She raised her hands high in the air. “For the next game, every girl will be given a card.” Trish quickly distributed cards to each of the girls. “Keep your cards face down until I tell you to flip them over. Any cheaters, pay the price.” Elly looked squarely at Sarah. Sarah eagerly nodded her head. She had SO much energy. Why couldn’t they keep playing a game outside or something so she could run? She fidgeted her foot impatiently, squeezing her card in her hand. “Now for this next game,” Elly began. She took a swig of her drink. Then a sip from a shot of vodka. “This one is going to be very funny. So pay attention to the Ferris wheel instructions.” Elly burst out laughing. “Omgod, what did I just say? Did I just say Ferris wheel? Jeeezzzus!” The girls squirmed on the couch. “What are we playing?” the group asked. Elly ducked her chin to her chest to giggle. When she looked up, her eyes were glazed over. “We’re going to each call a boy in my cellphone. And you’re going to pretend to be ME for as long as possible.”The girls all looked at one another. Elly continued. “Whoever can pull off being me for the longest amount of time, before the boy realizes, wins.”Elly grabbed Layla’s card first. “Okay, Layla. You’re calling Tony. He’s such a sweetie pie,” she said. She scribbled down Tony’s number onto Layla’s card. When Layla called Tony, it was over in a minute. It was likely because Layla had a heavy accent. Definitely not Elly’s voice. “Next up, Kimber. You’re calling Michael. HA! He’s probably in Paris right now. Niiiice.” Kimber was on the phone a bit longer than Layla. But only because Michael’s line kept cutting out. He soon figured out the scam and quickly hung up.Dalia had to call a guy named Ben. But Ben wasn’t interested in talking to Elly so he hung up. Dalia was mad because technically Ben had thought it was Elly. But Elly shook her head and said it had to be the longest live conversation to count.Trish was next. She had to call Trevor. Poor Trish. But Trevor didn’t pick up. Can’t imagine why???? Maybe something to do with Erin???? So Trish lost automatically. Sarah laughed when she saw her own card. Oh no, here we go again, she thought. HELLO? HELLO? OPERATOR? Don’t you just love playing telephone?
