Chapter 45

Not only had the boy with the beautiful name appeared out of nowhere in the dressing room, but he also brought the two senior soccer captains with him.The group of boys lounged on the ground against the dressing room walls. The two soccer captains had massive grins spread across their faces. They applauded loudly, stomping their feet and whistling. Bent, however, sat motionless, staring at her. His eyes blank and unreadable. Sarah quickly averted her gaze from his. She wasn’t exactly embarrassed, being still tipsy and all, but the fact that he was here, right now, was just too unexpected for her brain to process. “SURPRISE!” Elly yelled to Sarah. She pointed her bracelet jangling arm to the three handsome boys. “Look what my two white Persian cats dragged in.” Elly did, in fact, have two white Persians. The snowy white cats were perched on the top of the cabinets behind the boys’ heads. One of the Persian cats kept pawing at Bent’s milk chocolate curls. He would intermittently swat the cat’s furry paw away from his face. It probably wants to eat him, too, Sarah thought wickedly. Sarah dropped down onto a fuzzy stool near the stairs. She forced herself not to look at Bent again. But she could feel his eyes on her. “I was soooo totally surprised when Bent came in through that window over there,” Elly said. Sarah could see a small window on the opposite side of the dressing room. The mannequin near it looked as if it had been knocked over. The ballgown it wore was slightly twisted. That was likely the cause of the loud crash.Elly fiddled with part of her skirt in her hands. Sarah saw Elly wear a stomach-baring purple cashmere sweater and a puffy orange skirt. Elly looked like a funny ballerina. “You girls should have seen me. I about DIIIIEEED of fright. Bent punched the window up with his hand, and like ROLLED through it onto the floor.” Elly smiled proudly at Bent. From the corner of her eye, Sarah saw Bent shrug his shoulders. As if it was no big deal.”It was NUTS,” one of the soccer captains named Dan said. “We watched him from the ground. Prince ran and jumped onto the house. He was hanging by only one hand while reaching for his next hold.” Dan made a crazy swinging motion with his arm. “Then he did this super sick backflip thing — ” Dan turned to look at Bent, who still sat silently on the ground. “–honestly, man, I don’t even know how you did that — but it was so fast. Prince flipped. He got about halfway up and then scaled the wall to the window.” Dan grinned, punching Bent’s shoulder. “The next thing I knew, I was climbing up some long bedsheet. Now, here I am.” Elly clapped her hands. “Ooh, Bent. You’ll have to show us that awesome move sometime. Sounds sexy,” she said.Bent winked at her. “Anytime.” Sarah dared herself to look at him again. But he had his head down. The Persian cat had given in to temptation. It sat purring merrily on Bent’s lap. He rubbed its chin with his fingers. Trish stood up, almost falling in her big dress. “I need a drink. Can we head downstairs now?”Elly flung a pink, heart-shaped pillow at her friend. “But of course, Sista. Let’s all go! I’m starting to feel a bit sober myself!” As the girls made their way out of the room, Sarah noticed Bent held open the door. She could hear each of the girls giggle as they walked by him. She sucked in her breath, preparing herself. Bent Prince has no power over me. Bent Prince has NO POWER OVER ME!!!!!!!
