Chapter 50

Bonita’s POV
There he was, his familiar brown eyes searching the field.
Tears bega to fall as I began to run. But as soon as it happened, it quickly faded.
Charles lifted me by the waist, dragging me to the trees as I kept kicking him.
“Let me go Charles! Cliff’s there! He’s looking for me!” I dug my nails to his skin as he pinned me to a tree.
“No I can’t let him see you!” He flipped me over as my face buried at the trees rough texture. His knees locking with mine to prevent me from escaping.
“Cliff-” He covered my mouth with his hand, My screams turned into muffled sounds.
I elbowed him in the stomach, causing him to whimper. But he was quick enough to use his free hand to lock my hands behind me.
My body was trembling, I looked back to see Cliff walking near the building.
Cliff I’m right here.
Please look this way.
He kicked the door open, pulling out a gun at the back of his pocket. He entered inside as I felt my heart beating so fast.
Please let him see my clothes inside. I want this to end now, I wanted to run up to him and hug him so tight, feeling him around me made me realize that I can be safe.
“Bonita, don’t cry” Charles whispered, I opened my eyes to feel them wet from my tears.
My wails got louder, even with Charles’ hand covering my mouth.
“Please stop… he’ll hear us”
I ignored him and looked down, staring at the dry leaves with my sobs in the background.
My muscles soon felt sore in this position, Charles’ breathing wasn’t helping either. It was dark, cold and I was hungry.
Minutes later Cliff was out in the open, he was looking down on a piece of cloth that was on his hand.
My eyes widened, realizing that it was my clothes. And soon enough that gave me hope. My eyes wandered around, finding anything useful as a weapon.
I stopped when I saw a small rock a few inches away from my feet. Charles suddenly leaned his head on my back, giving it a perfect opportunity to knock him down.
“Bonita!” Cliff shouted causing Charles to react. He roamed his eyes around the area, while Charles kept telling me to keep quiet.
I bit onto his hand, causing him to grunt and pull his hand away. His grip on my hands weakened and I took the opportunity and elbowed him, harder this time.
He crouched down while holding onto his stomach, I turned around and made a run for it, giving out as much strength I can to my legs. The cold wind whipped to my face as I kept on running.
“Cliff!” I shouted with all my voice. His eyes met mine, thinking if I was a hallucination. But when I wrapped my arms around him, crying afterwards, he then hugged me tighter.
“Fuck Bonita,I thought I lost you” Cliff whispered, I melted into his arms as he carried me.
“Let’s get out of here, please…” I buried my face into his chest, He nooded and carried me to his car.
I looked back to the trees, worried that Charles might be there. My brows furrowed to see that he was no longer there, only seeing the shadows of the trees.
” I’m so glad you’re safe. What did my father do? Did anything happen while I was gone?” He started to drive, glancing at me while he does.
“Nothing serious really.” I shrugged while staring at the window. Rain was now visible as I see the grey clouds pouring droplets on the window.
“Nothing serious like what?” He persisted. Which made me irritated, but why would I be? He has the right to know. I mean it’s his father who caused this anyway.
“Bonita?”
“What?” I turned to him.
“What did he do?” He was looking at me. Not focused on the road, but me. I could see the curiosity in his eyes, begging me for answers.
“He drugged me-” The car stopped all of a sudden, causing me to lean forward unexpectedly. I scowled as I turned to him. His knucles were white as he gripped on the steering wheel.
“He drugged you?” Every word that came from his mouth was sharp and deadly.
“Yes- But at least I’m still alive-”
“What drug?” He cut me off, his gaze focused intently at the steering wheel.
“Ecstasy.” I murmured. He punched the steering wheel repeatedly, the car was now shaking ever so slightly.
“Cliff calm down-”
“I’m not going to fucking calm down! He drugged you and he’s going to pay.” I turned away from him, drowning my thoughts on the rain.
“Was it only Ecstasy?” He once again persisted, I shook my head while staring at the window.
“No. While I kept attempting to escape, his bodyguard kept injecting sleep drugs on me” I answered. Cliff was now quiet, which made me feel relieved because if he didn’t calm down then who knows what he’ll be punching next.
I heard him breath heavily, then the car started to move again. I glanced at him, seeing that he wasn’t interested in a conversation, I kept my mouth shut.
An awkward silence surrounded us, but I didn’t pay attention to it. A few roads later Cliff parked in a gas station with a small food station next to it.
“I’m grabbing some food, want something?”
” Something warm, some soup maybe? You go on ahead, I need to use the restroom” I said. Cliff nodded before giving me a short kiss and walking off.
I looked around for the restroom and spotted it in a distance. I entered inside and washed my face with cold water from the faucet.
I looked back at my reflection, observing my face.
You finally made it, you’re free now. Cliff is now here and he’ll protect you.
I wiped my face with some tissues before opening the door and walking out. The air was still chilly since it was still night time.
I saw Cliff by the food counter in a far distance, his back was turned to me as I started walking.
Someone gripped onto my wrist and pulled me to the dark corner, pinning me to the wall.
“What the fu-”
A sharp pain came from my leg, I winced and jerked off the person’s hand.
It was dark, and we were surrounded by tall grasses. So it was hard to see who the person was.
“I thought you trusted me?”
No. It can’t be, he was gone when I saw him by the trees. I thought he left. My eyes widened and I was about to run but he grabbed me by the waist and pinned me to the wall.
“No! No! Let go of me! Please! I don’t want to go back!” I screamed while tears were falling from my eyes.
He raised his hand and the silhouette of a syringe was now clearly visible.
“No! Let me go! I’m not letting you take me…” My eyes felt heavy, the drug taking in effect.
He placed both hands on my shoulders and faced me to where Cliff was, he was sitting down on a table with the food prepared, and he was waiting for me.
“I’m sorry Bonita, but I have to do this” He whispered in my ear. And soon my eyes closed and darkness engulfed my vision.
