Chapter 7

His touch. It said something but I can’t figure it out. When the Alpha touched me I felt something other than pain. Just slightly. It was nothing big. Yet, I’m still thinking about his touch.

“You coming?” Jerry asked from the door. We were heading to the Pack ground to watch the given punishment. Everyone had to be there. I nodded my head before following behind Jerry towards the grounds. I really didn’t want to watch this. It was so harsh. I’m pretty sure they would have backed off with a warning; but no, they’re getting whipped.

The place was filled to the brim. The three guys stood in the centre. Jose, Geoffery and Gaby, I learned their names were. Isaac stood strictly in-front of them talking to them. I couldn’t hear from back here. The area was buzzing with whisper which suddenly disappeared in a micro-second.

The Alpha was here.

Alpha Leopold walked through the path which was automatically created for him. He walked right past me and I caught a whiff of his smell. It’s very hard to describe. It’s like the fresh air you smell just after it rains. Petrichor. He was a few feet in-front of me but he froze before walked backwards until he was directly in-front of me. I gulped. What have I done now?

He griped my arm pulling me out from the crowd, as I reflex I grabbed Jerry’s, tagging him along. He released me once we got to the centre. He walked towards a stand which held a whip, picking it up and throwing it at my feet. He looked at me and I knew what he wanted me to do.

“No” I replied harshly. Gasps. That’s all I heard. Guess they weren’t used to anyone saying ‘no’ to their Alpha. Hell would freeze over before I whipped anyone of them. Even if I did want to, I didn’t have the guts to. Alpha looked at me stepping forward, raising his eyebrows in challenge.

“No” I repeated taking a step forward too. I have self-respect and he could eat a dick if he can’t take that. He growled taking another step forward but before he could reach me, Jerry stepped in-front of me. The Alpha growled louder at the challenge.

“Jerry, step away” I said to him. I wasn’t going to give him the chance to make me feel guilty if he got hurt.

“It is my job to protect you, and I’m doing just that” he growled looking at me.I looked at the Alpha and see his expression hinting respect but it quickly changed once he saw me. He was seething. I knew Jerry wouldn’t last in front of the Alpha. I wasn’t going to let him get hurt just because I didn’t want to do as asked. I was a higher rank to Jerry. I could command him. I have never used my Beta voice. Ever. Guess there’s always a first time to everything.

“Jerry. Step away.” I used my Beta voice. Everyone on the ground bowed their heads and Jerry whipped around towards me with one thing clouding his face. Hurt.

“I’m sorry” I whispered. Jerry looked down clenching his fists before stepping away. Not too far though.

“Alpha, how about you just punish them?” Isaac spoke up going to stand next to the Alpha. He growled stepping forward until he was in-front of me. We locked eyes and I glared while he just stared. I wasn’t going to look away first or blink. He was trying to show dominance and control. I wasn’t going to let him win. The air was tense. Very tense. We stood there for around a solid minute before my eyes starting watering. I crossed my arms raising my eyebrows when I saw his one side of his lip turn up, just slightly. A tear slid down my eye but I just wiped it away. A few seconds later Isaac sighed walking in between me and the Alpha, pushing both our faces in the opposite direction. We growled at him, but he looks unaffected.

“It’s cold. Hurry up” he walked back to his position. Alpha looked towards Isaac and I knew he was mind-linking him. Isaac looked down, eyebrows furrowing, before he looked back up, shaking his head towards the Alpha.

Alpha sighed rolling his shoulders. He motioned Geoffery forward, and he reluctantly does. He was shirtless. Alpha turned him around so he was showing his back to the Alpha. Alpha held out his hand and Isaac picked up the whip at my feet and placed it in his hand. Everyone took a step back, including Isaac.

Crack

I looked away shutting my eyes, as Geoffery whimpered.

Crack

I clenched my fists. Did he actually deserve that? “Stop” I yelled out before another whip could be landed on Geoffery’s bright red back. Alpha ignored me.

Crack

“What is wrong with you?” I asked disgusted. Maybe all the rumours weren’t wrong. I glare at him as he continued whipping. Not being able to take any of this, I turn on my heel and walk away.

He could do whatever the hell he wanted. I thanked the Moon Goddess he wasn’t my Alpha. I ran upstairs and straight to my bed, landing face first.

“You okay?” a voice asked from the door. I turned my head towards the side facing the door, still laying down.

“Peachy” I mumbled sitting up. I get up and wrap my arms around Jerry’s waist.

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t want to do that to you, but you left me no choice. I wasn’t going to let you get hurt” I explained to Jerry. He looked down at me and smiled before kissing my forehead.

“I understand” he moved to sit at my desk.

“You’ve been drawing” He commented looking through my sketchbook. It was nothing special. it was just a hobby. Something I do when I’m bored.

“What’s this?” Jerry asked looking down at a page. I walked up next to him and looked over his shoulder.

“An eye?” I shrugged.

“I know that. Who’s though?” he looked at me curiously.

“No one. It doesn’t have to belong to anyone” I lied. It did belong to someone. It belonged to the Alpha. The first time I saw him, his eyes stuck out. I couldn’t get them out of my head so I decided to draw, to free my mind. I ended up with a sketch of his eye. Great.

I wanted to tear it up, but I didn’t have enough will power for it. I get jittery when he’s near me. I heat up. He smells good. Could he be…? He couldn’t…But what if he is?

Werewolf’s didn’t find their mates until they were eighteen, and I was only seventeen. I only had a few months till I turn eighteen. Jerry had a few weeks to go. I was knocked back with the realisation that he may be my mate.

‘Will you give him a chance?’ my wolf asked.

‘Everyone deserves a chance. If he proves to me that he’s a good mate, I will accept him.’ I replied. That is, if he is my Mate. Even though his recent impression hasn’t been all too well, he deserved a chance. A chance to prove he isn’t bad at heart. A chance to prove he can love.

A chance to be prove the werewolf kingdom wrong.
