Sarah’s heart lurched. She was lucky she was still leaning against her gym locker. Otherwise, she might have fainted. Elly’s face actually looked terrible now. She was frowning, which made the creases between her eyebrows much more obvious. There were worry lines along the sides of her mouth, which now stood out more prominently as she frowned. “W-what do you mean?” Sarah asked. She tried as hard as possible to keep her face as neutral as Trish’s. “Bent slept on the ground outside, right next to you, at my party Friday night. So don’t even think about trying to deny that there’s something going on between the two of you.” Sarah bit her lip. Her thoughts were a jumble of chaos inside her head. Friday night, though, she’d been innocent. She’d had NO idea Bent had stayed outside on the pool deck to sleep next to her when she’d fallen asleep in the lounge chair. Unfortunately, though, Bent had kissed her Saturday night. So she was no longer innocent. Before Sarah could say anything, Elly continued. “I know Bent sees other girls. Lots of girls. Mostly models he meets in New York City.” Elly’s expression became painful. Sarah almost felt sorry for her. Almost. “I’m okay with Bent seeing other girls,” Elly sniffed. Now that was a downright lie! Sarah thought.Elly closed her eyes and then opened them again, staring hard at Sarah. “But I want to be clear with you.” Elly flipped her hair over her shoulder. “I’m Bent’s favorite. When the time comes, and he’s ready to be serious, I’m going to be his main girl. I just wanted to make sure you knew that.” Jeez! Wherever Bent went, constant threats from other girls seemed to follow. Sarah felt she was being lectured again by the two bratty models she’d encountered at Bent’s house.Sarah felt her hands clench into fists at Elly’s bold warning. She debated whether or not it was worth slapping Elly. But that would be way too dramatic. Maybe giving Elly a slight knock to the head with her field hockey stick would be better? Nah. Probably a little too violent. Instead, Sarah decided to say something else to Elly. “I already heard from Erin that Bent has a lot of girls in his life. Including you, Elly. That’s totally fine by me.” No it’s not but what else can I say at this point? Sarah thought, angrily. “By the way, I’m going out with Kurl Mayor now. Did Kurl tell you?” Elly’s face relaxed into the biggest smile Sarah had ever seen. “Wait. WHAT????” she said excitedly. Trish made an ‘O’ with her mouth. “Wow, I hadn’t heard about that,” Trish said. “Did you guys go out recently?” Trish tugged a loose strand of her bob behind her ear. Sarah nodded. “We had our first date this past Saturday night. It was really special. We went to the Red Grill.” This conversation was such a puke fest. How long did it take to get past these two gossipy friends?Elly gave Trish a knowing smile before she turned back to Sarah. “Kurl’s a great guy,” Elly said. She gave Sarah a quick hug. “You two are going to be so cute together!” She pulled back, clicking her fingers. “Oh my gosh! I have the best idea! We can double date!!!!!” Sarah gulped. That sounded like a recipe for disaster. Elly grabbed her phone out of her big leather hand bag. She started texting like crazy into it. “This is going to ROCK!” she squealed. “We’ll figure out the perfect spot to meet.” Sarah made a face. “Kurl actually had plans with me already to go into New York City this weekend.” Elly jumped up and down. “That’s it! Great idea!” Sarah gave herself a mental punch to the face. Why did she have to go and open her big, fat mouth????”Yay!” Elly said. “Let’s meet during lunch today and figure out where in the city is best. Oh I’m so excited!”
