— Lorin’s POV —
I grinned, watching Madeline walked out of the forest to school. She was playing with the necklace I gave her. I made sure she got into the school safely. I shifted and ran back to my pack house, which was miles from here. Madeline was already mated. I could smell his scent on her. It made me angry just thinking about her and that mutt. Once I was there, I shifted back and put on some shorts. I was greeted by my beta, Justin.
“Where were you?”He asked, amused. I smiled, thinking about Madeline.
“I was with Madeline.”I said and walked to my office. He looked at me shocked.
“You know she has a mate. You need to stay away from her.”He told me, almost warning me. I rolled my eyes and glared at him.
“Madeline is my mate.”
“Madeline is just a girl who looks like Dianna.”
I shook my head.
“Madeline is nothing like Dianna.”I said, with a hard stare. He looked at me in disbelief.
“She looks exactly like Dianna.”
Madeline Longfellow.
The next day, I woke with arms wrapped around my waist. I turned around and put my face into their hard chest. A kiss was pressed against my forehead and I mumbled, Lorin.
“Who’s Lorin?”Kyle asked angrily. His angry voice woke me up fully. I shot up and my eyes widen. Why did I say that?
“A friend.”
He narrowed his eyes at me.
“You’re cheating on me.”His voice held anger and sadness. I couldn’t help but feel guilty but I was telling the truth. Lorin was and will only be just a friend.
“I’m not. I promise Lorin is just a friend.”I spoke softly. He grabbed me and put his head in my neck.
“Don’t leave me.”
It broke my heart hearing him sound like that. He sounded broken.
“Kyle, I won’t ever think of leaving you.”I promised.
—
I did what I did everyday at lunch. Kyle was getting use to not seeing me at lunch. I walked to the forest to be greeted by Lorin. I smiled up at him and he pulled me into a hug. This time he kissed my cheek which flushed red. I felt a pang of guilt in my chest.
“Hey.”
“Hi.”He smiled cheekily down at me. He grabbed my hand. I stared at his hand a bit hesitant.
“I want to take you somewhere.”He pulled me deeper into the forest.
“You aren’t going to kill me are you?”I teased, half serious half joking. He laughed and shook his head. I loved hearing his laugh for some reason.
“No.”He bent down in front of me. I hopped on his back and put my face at the side of his neck. He continued walking and stopped by a waterfall. There was a small blanket on the grass and a basket on it. I hopped off his back and hugged him, standing on my tip toes. He wrapped his arms around me and smiled.
“I love it!”I smiled up at him. He grabbed my hand and walked to the blanket. I sat down across from him, crossing my legs. He followed my actions and his blue eyes bored into my brown ones.
“Do you like the necklace?”I nodded.
“I do but who is the girl in the picture? I can’t remember taking that picture.”I said. He bit his lip.
“There are somethings that I can’t tell you.”He said. I frowned and looked down at the necklace dangling from my neck. He grabbed my chin making me look up at him.
“I’m sorry, Madeline.”He kissed my cheek. I nodded, still upset.
“It’s okay.”I muttered. He smiled sadly at me and looked at my lips. He glanced up at me eyes and looked back down again. My breathing slowed down a bit. My heart was beating fast.
“Can I kiss you?”He asked, looking at my lips. I pulled away, quickly and shook my head.
“I have a boyfriend.”
He frowned and reached out to me again. I stood up.
“I think I should go back now.”I said even though I still had fifteen minutes left. He nodded and walked me out of the forest safely. I waved at him and walked back to school. I entered the front doors and walked to the cafeteria. I frowned at the people giving me looks and walked over to Kyle’s table. He turned around and smiled at me. I didn’t smile back and took a seat next to him.
He gave me questioning look and draped his arm over my shoulder. I glared at the necklace and the girl in it. Why won’t he tell me? I opened the locket and saw the little picture of them. It was with Lorin he had his arm over the girl’s shoulder and they were smiling widely. They looked happy. The photo looked like the same place we were in just a couple of minutes ago.
“Madeline?”I snapped the locket shut and looked up. Mars looked at me with a bit of concern. I furrowed my eyebrows.
“Are you coming to the bonfire tonight?”He asked. I nodded, feeling distracted by the necklace.
“Sure.”I agreed and glanced at the locket. Kyle looked at me weirdly.
“Why do you always play with that?”He whispered. I looked at it and smiled up at him.
“It was given to me by an important friend.”
