Chapter 7

Things got bad very fast.

Jason hit me in the head and I passed out. Brandon just watched, he didn’t do anything.

I woke up on a couch in someone’s office. I looked around and my heart leaped out of my chest as I found Brandon staring right at me. With no one else around. I gulped, sort of scared of his reaction.

“Why the fuck did you come back?” Brandon trembled with anger. “I told you not to come here!”

“I’m sorry!” My voice cracked. “My wolf was going crazy without you.”

“Doesn’t mean you had to come, blondie,” He muttered, “Now the pack wants to kill you. And I can’t help you.”

“What?” All the blood drained from my face. How did they find out so fast? It must’ve been that blabbermouth Jason. And they wanted to kill me?

He was right, I hadn’t thought that through at all. All I saw was him and didn’t care about the consequences.

“There’s only two ways this is going to end. By getting executed or by spending your life in a cell until you die.” Brandon crossed his arms and I just looked at him.

“Do you have any other options that don’t include me dying?” I pointed out, keeping my voice light.

“It’s not funny.” Brandon deadpanned.

“Sorry.” I shrugged.

“I’m serious. You need to get out of here. Now.”

I wanted to argue, to never leave his side now that we were united.

“How?” I asked.

He didn’t reply. The silence was so loud that I could hear the rapid pace of my heart.

“I-”

Someone knocked on the door, making him take a sharp intake of breath.

“Come in,” He demanded.

“Alpha Brandon,” Jason bowed and hissed at me, “Rogue,” I stood my ground, holding his glare.

“She’s not a rogue.” Brandon growled at him and I just looked at him.

Brandon, don’t, I warned in a mind-link.

He called you a rogue, no one calls my mate a rogue, I knew his wolf was speaking to me because he suddenly got more possessive. Brandon the man would never say that.

“Whatever.” Jason shrugged. “The pack votes to kill her.”

Oh no, oh no, oh no!

Brandon didn’t hesitate to answer. “We’ll arrange it for tomorrow.”

You better figure out a way to get me out of here! I screamed into his head and he winced.

I got this, stop talking, Brandon said irritably.

“Okay,” Jason took that as a dismissal, “‘Night, Alpha,” Jason bowed and closed the door with a loud slam.

I spun around to meet Brandon’s eyes, “Tomorrow?” He arranged my death for tomorrow of all days? Did he want to kill me that bad?

“It’s the best I could do. Jason wanted to execute you today but I told him no.”

What was with his pack? Why were they all so violent towards us? Sure, my pack wasn’t any better but we didn’t kill for fun. If this were my pack, I would be spending my life in prison but I’d actually be alive. Here, they just execute wolves without getting a trial or anything.

“Get some rest. Tomorrow’s going to be a big day.” That was all he said. I sighed loudly, too exhausted to argue anymore.

“Fine. But you better have a plan.”

*****

I woke up on the couch in the same office. I rubbed my eyes and yawned loudly. My brain wouldn’t stop thinking and I didn’t get any sleep at all. I was too worried about today.

So today was the day of my execution. Seemed a little harsh but I guess that this is how Brandon’s pack handles enemy wolves lurking around their territory.

Brandon wasn’t around.

I lay there for a moment, thinking about a million different things, when the door was shot open and a white-haired woman rushed in and literally picked me up and threw me across the room.

“Who are you?” I asked quickly as she grabbed my arm and dragged me around the halls.

“I’m Angela,”

“I don’t-”

“I was a wolf from your pack, a confidant of Alpha Albert.” She reminded me but she still wasn’t ringing any bells. I continued to give her a blank look and she sighed.

“Doesn’t matter anyway, you won’t see me again after you leave.” Angela muttered.

She increased her speed and I could see the door, my freedom so close I could almost touch it. I felt immense relief lift from my shoulders because I was going to live and escape this terrible place-

And then Jason shot infront of us, blocking the hall with his huge body.

“Jason,” She said, her hand stiffening around my arm.

“Angela,” Jason greeted and kissed her forehead. He looked at me and his eyebrows formed into a v.

“What are you doing with this filthy rogue?” He asked and Angela let go of my arm like I was suddenly too disgusting to touch.

“I was leading her to Alpha Brandon, thought he might want to see her,” Angela thought up a lie quick.

“I’ll take her,” Jason’ grip was much harsher and I was pretty sure my arm was going to be bruised.

Angela opened her mouth to argue but he silences her with a kiss.

I’m sorry, Amy, I can’t argue with him, Angela mind-linked and a memory of her quickly resurfaced. She was Angela Reyes, the woman who was raised as my brother’s mate. She had become very depressed after Albert found his mate six years ago and she was long forgotten by the pack.

I was happy she found her own mate.

I’ll find a way.

Angela nodded, looking doubtful, but she turned around and took her time walking back down the way we came.

Jason shoved me out the door without any warning and I almost tripped. I officially hated him more than Brandon.

Brandon and the rest of his pack were already there waiting.

Shoot, it already started!

Don’t worry, Brandon would never kill us, my wolf reassured me confidently but I wasn’t so sure. My wolf liked to imagine things.

They were circled around a wooden platform, waiting silently. Someone shoved me in Brandon’s direction and I tried to stall as long as I possibly could. I walked very slowly, waiting for some miracle to happen.

But nothing did.

Brandon was holding a sword with a golden hilt that gleamed proudly in the sun. I wanted to take it and hit him over the head with it.

What happened to your plan? When are you going to get me out of here? I questioned and I could see him visibly roll his eyes. That jerk. . .

“Any last words, Amelia Pureblood?” Brandon asked, his words overpowering the harsh rush of the wind. He did not just say that. He did not just say my first name.2

I made a face at him.

“Then your punishment stands. You will die by execution.” Brandon announced to his pack and they cheered. Oh no he doesn’t! Did he trick me again? Isn’t he going to save me?

This was unbelievable.

I didn’t know what to believe anymore. He gripped the sword in his hands, so tight that his knuckles became white. He raised his sword above his head and looked me in the eyes. There was no guilt.

Brandon had tricked me.

My mate was going to kill me.
