Being a morning person, I roused at 6a.m the next morning without any difficulty.
At Nicholas Corporation, I was expected to start work at 8a.m every morning so I had ample time to prepare.
I made my way to the bathroom and washed my face with a generous amount of water.
I had stripped out of my clothes and stepped into the bathtub when I heard Edana charge into my room in her normal manner.
“Wakey!” She yelled and paused when she probably realized I was not in the room.
“I’m in the bathroom!” I called out and she flung the door open wearing a goofy smile on her face, her hair was rolled up in a bun and secured with tiny bobby pins.
“I had to make sure you’re awake.” She said as I scrubbed my body with a sponge and soap.
“Aren’t you going to work?”
Normally, she’s supposed to be on her way to work by now.
“Anything for my little sis… by the way, I’ve already laid out your outfit for today. I’m have to go prepare for work. I can’t wait to hear the juicy details of your day at work. ”
She slammed the door shut before I could utter words in protest.
After I had eaten and fully dressed, I set out for work. Mom had already left before I woke up, and Tam was getting ready to leave for work too. She had placed a call to the office that she’d likely come in late, and they had no problem with it. I guess they didn’t want a ‘talk-of-war’ with my persuasive sister because she would surely win.
I arrived at Nicholas Corporation at exactly 7:48a.m and walked to the office I was assigned to.
The office was really amazing, I had some books as related to my job, I also had a laptop to myself, not to talk about the plush white rug beneath my feet just like the one in mom’s room.
I pulled my feet out of my murderous heels and felt the tenderness of the rug with them.
The interior of the office was in pink color, just what I liked. Virtually every girls favourite color’s pink so that wasn’t difficult for the designer to figure out. But there was too much pink and I hated it in a way.
I snapped out of my trance as I heard a knock on the door.
“Come on in.” I sang and discretely slipped my feet back into their cells.
Terence walked in looking all handsome in his perfectly tailored black suit and designer pair of black shoes.
“Good morning Terence.”
He smiled and walked to my desk.
“Good morning too.” He placed a hand on my desk and looked me straight in the eye, this made me quite uncomfortable.
“I’ll introduce you to the rest of the staff and then you’ll be meeting with my brother…please come with me.”
I followed him out of the office to meet up with the other staff.
I was introduced to Toby, the computer programmer, Gella, the secretary, Felcia, the Personnel Manager, and many others.
Felcia was quite friendly so she asked me to meet up with her for lunch, and I promised to take on her offer.
Gella however acted like a total bitch, eyeing me like I stole her boyfriend or something.
Finally, I was to meet up with my boss, something I eagerly anticipated.
“Go on in, he’s expecting you.” Terence motioned me to go in.
I stepped into the office and my heart malfunctioned for a brief moment.
He was really gorgeous, had the most piercing set of eyes I had ever seen, he even managed to strike a posture that inadvertently pulled the strings of my heart.
I restrained my thoughts and awkwardly straightened my dress as his eyes scrutinized every inch of my body. His eyes movement made my legs feel like jelly.
With a wave of his hand, he asked me to step forward and I did.
“Delfina right?” He locked his eyes with mine and I craftily looked away. His eyes held many unspoken words that I wouldn’t want to find out about.
“Yes.” I responded. He nodded and lowering his gaze to a document.
I stood for about five minutes but he didn’t take further notice of me. My feet were hurting badly and I couldn’t take it anymore.
I coughed and he looked up at me with a frown like I had hurled an egg at him.
“What?” He demanded sternly.
Rude much.
He didn’t even bother to offer me a seat, I wouldn’t have minded him ignoring me for an hour provided I was seated.
“My feet are hurting.” I mumbled and moved my feet unsteadily.
“I don’t care about your feet.” He stated coldly, resting his icy gaze on my feet which were being tortured without mercy.
Just who does this guy think he is?
“At least if you’ll be kind enough to offer me a…”
“I decide whether you seat or stand.”
I snorted in disbelief and he continued with looking at the document in his hand.
“I think it would be nice of you telling me if you’re done with talking to me so I can take my leave.”
He shot daggers at me with his eyes and seductively rubbed his chin with his fingers.
“Do whatever pleases you.”
“Very well then.”
I turned and walked out of his office.
Terence was talking to someone when I saw him, immediately he saw me, he dismissed the person with a curt nod and rapidly approached me.
“How did it go?” He asked and I sighed.
“You didn’t tell me that your brother is a meanie?”
He snickered and glanced at me.
“Sorry, I skipped that part, you’ll get used to Philip, he’s always like that.”
I nodded and he told me I could go back to my office and wait for Philip’s instructions.
When I went back to my office, a mail from my boss graced my arrival. I took my position in my chair and pulled the laptop towards my body, but not too close to strain my eyes.
With my fingers, I navigated the pointer around the screen and opened the mail.
In a diary close to you is a list of events I am to partake in, make sure to schedule them properly so they don’t clash. You will make a call to Mr. Spencer and cancel the appointment I made with him. His number’s also in the diary alongside those of my business partners. Do that in five minutes and report back to me through this same medium.
The mail was too formal for my liking, but it’s not like I expected him to type ‘Yo! My beautiful and sexy P.A, how you holding up this morning?’
With a sigh, I reached out for a black diary behind my laptop .
After laying out Mr Philip’s schedule and I admired my work smiling satisfactorily like an idiot.
Then, I scanned his schedule and sent it over to him through mail, waiting for his feedback which never came.
My phone beeped, notifying me of a new message. Picking the device, I accessed the message.
Hey sis, how are you?
I’m fine.
How’s your first day at work?
It’s going better than I expected.Which is a total lie.
A mail from my boss popped up in my laptop’s screen, stopping my fingers from sending an already typed message to my sister. I tucked my phone away and read the mail.
I’m to be in a meeting in fifteen minutes, you’re coming with me.
The message was brief but I understood it clearly.
I hastily checked my hair in a mirror snatched out of my bag. Fortunately, I don’t wear makeup so there was no need to fuss about a mascara smear or a lipstick smudge.
I straightened my gown before I walked in the direction of my employer’s office with a pen and notepad.
He was just stepping out of his office and I stared at him as I walked in his direction. I stopped moping to avoid being caught staring, which officially was considered rude.
He motioned me to follow him and I did. Fortunately his office was away from the offices of the staff so at least, I escaped the stares and glares I would have received.
He led me to a limousine parked outside with a chauffeur standing beside it.
“Good afternoon sir,” The young man bowed with so much grace but Philip ignored him.
If Aiden felt bad about being ignored, he didn’t show it.
“This is Aiden my chauffeur, Aiden meet Delfina, my personal assistant.” Philip introduced, patting Aiden’s back like one would to a loyal pet.
I smiled at Aiden who nodded without saying a word. He opened the door on our side and I made to step into the limousine’s opened door, but Philip beat me to it, roughly brushing me aside.
I could lay a complaint about manhandling .
Snorting, I slid in a seat far from where he sat. My eyes descended upon the blank notepad in my hand and I didn’t lift them till we arrived at our destination.
