“WHICH OF THESE do you prefer?” I asked Tam, pointing at a pink ball gown hanging in one of those fancy glass enclosures. She shook her head in disapproval because she hated anything in pink. I gestured at another one, a red gown with a slit running down one side.
“I prefer the red dress.” She replied, stroking the glass partition separating us from the beautiful dress.
“I’m getting it. Please excuse me…” I beckoned a shop attendant over and she walked confidently towards us.
“Can I get this gown?” She nodded and carried out my request.
After a few hours of shopping for necessary stuff for the party, we went back home rather exhausted. I dumped the shopping bags on the floor and sank into a sofa, Edana copied me.
Mom had to run out to attend to a lot of things concerning the party I knew would be classy. She invited Terence and gave him two other invitation cards for people he would like to attend.
I checked the time on my phone. 3:56p.m
We had barely five hours left to prepare for the party that was scheduled to start by 9:00p.m.
“Come on, let’s go prepare.” Tam said and pulled me up. I followed her upstairs after grabbing the shopping bags.
💭💭💭
“Wow, you look gorgeous!” My sister gushed, staring at my reflection in the mirror. She had done a perfect job on me, my face, my hair has been transformed, she packed it up in an elegant bun.
“Thanks sis, you look gorgeous too.” I said, hugging her.
Her black gown was simply amazing. I loved the way it hugged her in the right places.
“Here.” She handed me a small black box with tiny blue ribbons on it.
“What’s this?” I demanded, shaking the box.
“Open it.” Her eyes twinkled with excitement. When I opened the box, what I saw in the box dazzled me completely. A complete set of diamond jewelry stared at me.
“It’s from Terence, you can thank him later, however you’re gonna do that.” She winked, but I was too busy admiring the jewels to whack the back of her head for that perverted comment.
“Party starts in five minutes girl, let’s go slay!” She helped me put on the diamond necklace, and the earring, before pulling me out to my mom’s car waiting for us.
Slaying time.
💭💭💭
I stepped out of the car and looked at the looming building in front of me. The paparazzi were taking pictures of people that matter. I turned to Edana and she winked.
“Let’s do this.” She grabbed my hand and we covered the distance that separated us from the entrance.
She was fond of scenes like this. My sister was an attention-loving freak whereas I loved staying off the radar as invisible as I can get.
When we got to the red carpet, I sighted Michael and Terence checking their watches and tapping their feet impatiently. Edana gave me a look and I snickered. They hadn’t spotted us yet and I imagined the look that’ll be plastered on Terence’s face when he sees me.
“Miss, what fashion brand is your purse.” One of the so called media-men sprang towards us with his microphone thingy.
“Louis Vuitton.” Edana said cooly. The man asked other questions and she answered patiently. The man ignored the glares I shot at him.
I always wondered how my sister got the patience to deal with the paparazzi. Most of them were simply annoying, always wanting to stick their noses in other people’s businesses.
“Come on Tam.” I said through gritted teeth, pulling Tam who laughed heartily, away. The man, probably satisfied with the information he had gotten out of Tam, grinned widely at me. I scoffed and we made our Way to Michael and Terence who still hadn’t seen us.
“Hey.” I called, my voice trembled slightly, seeing Terence in all his glory. He was dressed in a tuxedo and a pair of matching designer shoes. He looked up from his watch and he staggered backwards in shock. His lips parted slightly as his eyes travelled from my face to my body.
“Wow, you…you look stunning, seriously… You..” He said staring intensely into my eyes. I blushed and turned my face to Edana and Michael, they were quite busy. *cough* excuse me.
“Delfina.” I shifted my gaze back to Terence whose eyes were slightly darkened.
“You are the most beautiful lady that has ever stepped into my life.” He lifted my chin and inched his lips closer to mine and trapped it in a passionate kiss.
“Whohooo!”
“Get a room people!”
Cheers from behind us interrupted our kiss, we turned to see the paparazzi taking random photos of us. Before the man with the microphone approached us, Terence pulled me gently away.
He extended an arm towards me and I slipped my hand in. We walked into the an elevator alongside Edana and Michael, heading to the floor where the party was happening.
When we stepped out of the elevator into the large ballroom, Edana and Michael broke off from our company.
The entire place was decorated tastefully, the chandeliers hanging from above us were elegant, casting a golden glow on everyone in the room. I looked around the room and at the couples that walked past us, gorgeously dressed. The ladies flaunted their dresses, possibly trying to show off their wealth, or that of their boyfriends and husbands.
Slow music was playing and the entire atmosphere was breathtaking.
“You have beautiful eyes.” Terence complimented, which startled me as I wasn’t aware that his eyes were traveling all over my body.
“Thank you.” I replied, still glancing around me.
“Hey, you two!” My mom’s voice came from behind us, completely startling me. We spun round to meet her observant eyes.
“Oh em gee! Baby you look so beautiful.” She swept me in a tight embrace and I rolled my eyes. My mom could act like like a highschool girl when she was excited. But what can I say? She’s the best mother ever.
With a laugh, I wriggled out of her arms but she trapped my hand in hers.
Her outfit was a simple sleeveless turquoise blue gown, and a tiara on her wrapped up hair. Her face was perfectly made up and I silently thanked whoever did such a great job on my mom.
“And you, my dear young man, you look so handsome.” She smiled at my boyfriend who bowed slightly, beaming at her.
A man whispered something in her ears and she nodded, still clutching my hand.
“OK sweethearts, I have a party to take care of.” Her eyes moved rapidly around.
“Where’s Tam?” She demanded.
“I can’t say, she suddenly disappeared with Mike.”
A smug smile crept up mom’s face. “To the nearest bathroom I guess. Children these days-” Me and Terence snickered at her comical reference.
“-there are people I’ll like to introduce you to later, don’t disappear.” She gestured at Terence and I before moving gracefully away.
“Let’s get a seat.” Terence held me closer and we moved slowly towards the countless seats positioned in front.
A lot of people stared at us. The glares from the ladies were strong enough to strangle me. Why can’t you people be happy for me for once?
I suddenly became nervous, aware of the numerous eyes on us.
Terence noticed my nervousness so he stopped abruptly and focused his gaze on me.
“Look at me.” He demanded in a tender voice. Doing as he asked, I peered into his bewitching eyes.
What’s he planning on doing?
I started hyperventilating when his face inched closer to mine. As soon as his lips touched mine, I heard the shocked gasps from around me.
Yes! Take that witches.
His eyes were fixed on mine after our lips separated, he brought me closer to himself and placed a kiss on my forehead.
OMG!
I became oblivious of the angry ladies around me who wear on the verge of tearing their selves apart.
Despite my oblivion, I felt a strange sensation on the back of my neck, like someone was watching me.
After the short speech given by my mom, the party fully commenced. Waiters waltzed around the room offering goblets filled with wine to the guests. Terence took a goblet for me and another for himself.
With the goblets between our fingers, we made our way to my mom who I identified standing at a corner with some people. We occasionally stopped to exchange pleasantries with different couples.
“Hey mo…” I paused in greeting my mom as my eyes fell on a person I knew too well.
Terence squeezed my hand in his and I had to restrain myself from letting the goblet slip out from between my fingers.
“It’s nice to meet you again, Delfina.”
