Chapter 24

Chapter 24: Jammie (Wabara’s POV)
We walked into Candy’s and stood in line. She was standing directly in front of me and was looking at the chalkboards which had the menu scribbled down. “Why don’t we get something different? We always get the same thing,” she mumbled.
“Do you want coffee then?”
She shook her head. “Coffee makes my stomach hurt. And actually increases cramps,” she said, glancing at me over her shoulder.
“Milkshake?” I suggested.
She shook her head, “I don’t like dairy so much, it makes my stomach hurt after a point.”
“Um… what about soda?”
She shook her head. My god, she is so picky.
“It’s our turn next, just order the usual. You’re too picky,” I chuckled.
“Am I paying?” she questioned.
“No.” I slipped the money into her back pocket. “You’re not.” She stepped up to the counter and I realized immediately that the waiter was the same one from this morning.
“Hey again, what can I get for you?” He grinned at her.
“Um, two iced black teas, please,” she said awkwardly while fishing the money out of her pocket.
“Size?”
“Medium, both of them.”
He grabbed two cups, scribbled it down, but he didn’t ask for her name. Which means he remembers it from earlier. He slid it forward and then started doing the total. “Two? Are you guys together?” He glanced at me over her shoulder.
Neither of us answered, we just looked at each other.
“In that case, sorry,” he chuckled awkwardly. “I don’t know if you noticed but I put my number on your cup earlier in the morning. I wouldn’t have done that if I knew he was your boyfriend.”
“He’s not,” she said quickly, placing the money in his hand. “He’s not my boyfriend,” she mumbled.
He looked between us and then handed her the change before printing the receipt. “Oh. Can I give you my number then?” he asked, grabbing a tissue and getting his marker ready.
I rolled my eyes and looked around instead of at them.
She’ll say no anyway. She turned and glanced at me before turning back around, taking the receipt he handed her. “Sure.”
I blinked, my head whipping forward while I stared at her.
He smiled and then wrote down his number quickly, handing her the tissue. “Call me. Or don’t, up to you. But you’re very pretty.”
“Thank you,” she chuckled, taking the tissue and folding it up, tucking it into her pocket. She stepped out of line. “See you around.” She moved to collect our drinks but I didn’t move at all. “Wabara.”
I turned to look at her when she called my name.
She shot me a look before grabbing my arm and pulling me away. She grabbed our drinks and handed me mine before walking over and sitting at a table. I followed numbly and sat down, staring at her. She stabbed her straw through the top and then sipped on the tea. “What?” she asked, her lips still around the straw as she bit down on it.
“Why did you just do that?”
“Do what?” She grabbed the salt shaker from the table and started sliding it between her hands, passing it from one to the other.
