Chapter 53

Erin grew more quiet. Her eyes took on a faraway look. “Trevor ordered pizza. We were hanging out in his living room, watching some sitcom. The couple on the show had just kissed. Trevor took my face in his hands, and he just said it.” Pam closed her eyes, smiling. Sarah rested her chin on her arms, snuggling against the moon-shaped pillow. She tried to imagine how Erin was feeling. What it must be like to hear the boy of your dreams say those three magical words. It must be such an extraordinary feeling. There was a soft scratching sound at the door. Pam glanced over. “Ugh, Muffin wants in,” she said. Erin jumped up and opened Pam’s bedroom door. The Siamese cat slinked in. Its blue eyes glared at Erin and Sarah, as if challenging them to try and pet him. The cat hopped up onto the vanity table to sit with Pam. But Pam didn’t bother to pet him either. She knew the cat just liked to sit and watch. Erin jumped back onto the bed. “I couldn’t say it back, though,” Erin confessed. “I…I wasn’t ready to say ‘I love you.’ I like Trevor. I like him a WHOLE lot. I just…I want to be ready when I say it, you know?”Sarah bit her lip. “Well, congratulations, Erin. That’s a huge step. It must have taken a lot out of Trevor to tell you that.” Erin nodded. “Yeah, he was sort of weird when I didn’t tell him I loved him back. But I think he understood. I mean, I’ve been with a lot of different guys. But Trevor. I’ve never been with anyone quite like him before.” Her eyes narrowed. “But he stopped being weird once I pushed him over on the couch, pulled down his pants and…OKAY, OKAY I’ll stop there,” Erin said as both Pam and Sarah threatened to yell at her again. As Sarah watched Muffin lick his paw, her phone beeped. Curious, she tapped the phone to read the message. -Are we on tonight????? Hit me up, Little Bunny! ~KurlSarah hid her face in Pam’s bedspread, giggling. “What’s so funny?” Erin asked. She was scrolling through her phone. Pam attempted to pet Muffin. The cat swatted her hand with its paw. “Kurl Mayor, the guy I was in the hot tub with. I sort of gave him my number last night.” Erin made a face. “Oh, that’s right. I remember you mentioning that. So what does the creep want?” Sarah groaned. “Kurl is not a creep. He’s cool. Sexy too. He wants to take me out.” Pam gave up trying to pet the cat. “Oh, wow, Sarah. That’s great. Right?” Sarah sat up. She shrugged her shoulders. “I mean, I guess so. I like Bent more, obviously. But, well, I can’t wait around for him forever.”Erin was texting like crazy into her phone. Probably to Trevor. But she still seemed to be paying close attention. “Well, if you ask me, I say ignore the creep. He smells like a ‘use her and lose her’ type. Find a nicer guy like Pam’s Patrick.” She put down her phone and looked squarely at Sarah. Sarah let out a dramatic sigh. “How about this? I’ll have Kurl meet me in a very public place. And we won’t go anywhere else. To test him. What do you think?” Erin made a ‘tsk tsk’ sound. “Just warning you. He’s gonna get greedy.” Pam gave Sarah a sad smile. “I’ve never met this Kurl guy. But if Erin thinks he’s bad news, Sarah, he very well might be.” “Okay, fine,” Sarah said. “I hear you both. But I need attention. Pam, you have Patrick kissing you on a beach. And Erin, you have Trevor confessing his undying love. Me! I have NOBODY. At least, not really. I NEED some kind of attention. Otherwise…” her voice started to trail off. “Otherwise I might die trying not to watch Elly and Bent walk off together into the sunset.” Before Pam and Erin could stop her, Sarah quickly texted Kurl back. -Red Grill. 8pm. Wear your tux. I liked it! xo ~ Your Little Bunny
