Chapter 190

Sarah let out an inaudible shriek of surprise. She spun around to confront the girl, but the wicked witch had disappeared in the crowd. Sarah frowned down at her damp costume. “Maybe it was just an accident,” she murmured.Luckily the girl’s drink had been clear so it didn’t leave a stain.Sarah sighed. Well, it could’ve been worse. It wasn’t like her costume was ripped! Taking a deep breath, she continued through the club. The ladies’ lounge was on the opposite side of the club. When she was safely inside, she headed straight for the hand dryer. After several minutes, her costume was dry and looked better than ever. There were a lot of girls standing at the mirrors. They talked in a frenzy amongst each other.”Oh my gawd the D.J. is playing like every single song I love!” a girl in a flamingo costume said.To her right, a girl dressed as a deer nodded. “Yeah, this is my favorite club in Miami. It’s way bigger and nicer than Surrender Club. That club has too many promoters.” “The guys are super hot here, too,” a girl in a cat costume giggled. “So true,” her friends said together. They gave each other an air five. Sarah smiled as she squeezed between them to check her reflection. WOW! She’d forgotten how AWESOME her pink highlights and makeup looked. Not to mention the incredible jewelry she’d been given for the evening.”Holy smokes. That necklace is mega GORGEOUS!” the girl in the flamingo dress said. Sarah blushed again. “Thanks. I thought it would be over the top. But I guess you’re right.” “It’s totally hot. You should wear it every day!” the flamingo girl said. Sarah adjusted her high heel. “Yeah, this guy I’m sort of seeing gave me another necklace. It has a gigantic blue diamond on it.”The group of girls raised their eyebrows. “Seriously?” the girl dressed as a deer asked. Sarah nodded. “Yeah, he adores me. Want to send him a picture?” “YES! What’s his name?” the flamingo girl asked. Sarah pulled out her phone. “Kurl,” she giggled. “I told him I’d send him a pic in my costume. He’s probably staring at his phone waiting for it.” She laughed. The group of girls crowded together around Sarah’s camera. “One, two, THREE!” Sarah clicked the picture. “SOOOO cute!” the girl in the cat costume said. “I’ll give you my digits so you can send me that pic. I’ll make sure I get it to all of us.” The flamingo girl and deer girl studied the image on Sarah’s phone. “Nice! We all look great!” the flamingo girl said. “Catch you out there!” The group waved and headed back out into the nightclub. “You edible? You look good enough to eat,” a girl with heavy lipstick said behind Sarah. Sarah spun around, blinking at a woman in a cowgirl costume. “Thanks,” Sarah said. “You’re welcome,” the cowgirl said. “Want some?” She held out her red lipstick. “Uh, I’m good,” Sarah said politely. She backed up and crashed into a group of very tall girls who’d just walked inside. The group wore matching strawberry dresses. “Ugh, MOVE!” one of the girls snarled. She shoved Sarah hard away from her. “GOODNESS!” Sarah shrieked. She caught herself before she slammed into a sink. The cowgirl whirled around from the mirror. “Get your freakin’ strawberry butts outta here before I pound you all into Vitamin C!” The strawberry girls glared at the cowgirl. “Whatever,” one of them said, tossing her hair over her shoulder. The group left the bathroom. “Gosh. Thanks for that,” Sarah said. She brushed off her dress. “Don’t let those nasties get to you. You just stand your ground,” the cowgirl said. Sarah smiled. “I’ll try to keep that in mind.” She waved and headed back out into the dark nightclub. As she surveyed the crowd, trying to decide which way to go, her eyes suddenly spotted Bent! Her heart did a funny flip. She was SO relieved to see he was all right. Bent leaned against a wall. She noticed he had removed his white lab coat. His silk scrubs were open, revealing most of his chiseled chest muscles. His chocolate curls glowed softly in the neon lights above him. He had no idea how precious he looked. “You survived!” Sarah said, sidling up to him. He’d been grinning at something over her shoulder. His eyes dropped down to her as she approached. When he saw her, his smile faltered. “Oh, hey,” he said.Sarah bit her lip. “I wanted to thank you. For getting me out of that speeding ticket.” She had to force herself to keep calm. His expression was making it hard for her to keep her cool. “Uh, yeah. Sure. No problem.” He took a swig from his glass. Sarah put her hands on her hips feeling frustrated. “How did you get away from all of those cops? I was really worried about you.” Bent licked his lips. The little golden specks shone brightly in his milk chocolate eyes. “I didn’t. I was here the whole time.” “What?” Sarah asked. She pushed her nurse hat higher up on her head. “How were you here? You mean the car…you mean you…” Her voice trailed off. She realized suddenly that he was really drunk. Bent pointed to his blinking watch, his eyes dancing. “This watch does LOTS of interesting things. For instance. It’s a remote control for all of my cars.” He grinned wildly at her. “I usually let my cars drive themselves. Buuuut, I noticed Rex had gone haywire. Occasionally he gets temper tantrums.” Bent did his bell laugh. “So naturally, I had to intervene.” Sarah gasped. “So you were in the club, remotely driving that Lamborghini on the highway?” Bent’s grin widened. “Lamborghini, huh? And I thought you didn’t know cars.”Sarah gave him a tight smile. “The police officer wasn’t too happy with you almost crashing that sports car right into us.” Bent shifted from one foot to the other. “Nah, Laser would never allow his nose to get dented. He’s too vain.” Sarah was about to say something else when two girls shoved into her and practically dove onto Bent. “OOOOOH BEEEENTLEEEEY!” Oh My GAWD, Sarah thought in surprise. The Wonder Twins had returned.
