Chapter 58

I was now on my way back to Lancelot’s pack with my brother and son. I was hoping for a quiet ride but my brother had other things in mind.
“So many things have happened. We need to have a long talk,” said Alex.
“I just want to forget everything about that,” I said as I looked to the window. “Aiden would you mind telling me how you ended up in the Blood River Pack?”
My brother hummed and nodded; Aiden took a deep breath before talking.
“One day, while I was still training in the other pack, older trainees talked about the tragedy of the Wild Moon Pack. They mentioned that neither the rogues who had supposedly murdered the previous Alpha and Beta of the pack nor the murderer of the third in command were ever found.”
“I have heard about that,” I said.
Aiden nodded sharply. “I remembered you said that one was your parents’ pack. It was a long shot but I thought the incident might have had something to do with your parents.”
I nodded. The idea had crossed my mind but I was too focused on my love life and job.
“When I asked them about it, they said those were the only things revealed to the public, but the old erudite pack might have written down information and dates.”
My brother butted in, his eyes still on the road. “It is true that the pack used to document what high ranked wolves had done during big events near their packs. It is a shame they were absorbed by the Blood River Pack.”
I knew that story; It happened fifteen years ago. Our pack and many others had to form an alliance to stop the expansion of the Blood River Pack. The old Alpha was forced to retire and his son, Alexander Fucking-trash Hunter, took charge.
“But, was that actually that Pack’s name? It sounds kind of cheesy,” I said.
My brother chuckled, shaking his head. “Of course not. It is just how people called them. Also, someone is really bad at naming packs. They were extremely intelligent but forgot that as werewolves we need to be physically strong. Moreover, they were too damn proud to accept help. They thrived because they were respected until Alpha James got greedy.”
“And Alpha Alexander Hunter is just as bad,” I said.
Aiden cleared his throat. “Alexander Hunter is supposedly a good leader. It had never been reported that he has never attempted to follow the steps of his power-hungry father, and maintains an amicable relationship with other packs.”
“I know all that!” I yelled feeling my blood boiling. How can he after everything that has happened say that?
Aiden whined and looked at his lap. “I am sorry, mom.”
I sighed profoundly and rubbed my temples. I should not lash out on him. Aiden is obsessed with facts. He is an annoying kid who always comes out with fun facts nobody cares about. But, he is my annoying kid.
“No. I am sorry.” I rubbed his shoulder and he gave me a small smile, which a returned with a wide one.
“Well. That same day I called the Blood River Pack and being the future Beta of the Silver Fang Pack I was allowed to that to their Alpha.”
“You contacted another Alpha without my permission?” my brother said calmly, but I knew he was seething.
“Sorry.” Aiden’s hands were shaking. He has been through a lot as well. I laced one of my hands with his and rubbed the back of his hand soothingly.
Aiden kept talking. “He told me that if the book existed once, it would probably still be kept in the old library. I gave him my information and he said he would contact me if he found out anything.”
“When did you say that all that happened?” I asked.
“Around the middle of last Summer while I was training away from our pack,” said Aiden.
So that is what Alexander meant when he said he had accepted my son’s request.
“I did not hear back from him for a long time, so I thought he had forgotten about it. However, one day he sent me an email. He even called me directly to tell me that he had found the book, but that he did not allow intellectual property from his pack to leave the territory.”
“When did he call you?” asked my brother.
“That was almost two months ago. He offered to let me read any book in the old library if I went there by myself, but not only that. He said he had heard that I had been training with other packs and had a high rank within our pack warriors despite my age. He wanted me to train with his pack for a month.”
“And why didn’t you tell me or Alex?” I asked.
“The condition was that I had to keep the fact that I was going to his territory a secret. I just had to go and stay there for a month and I would get the information I wanted and be trained by one of the strongest packs,” said Aiden.
I sighed again. “So what happened, then?”
“When I got there everyone was nice, I had access to the library, and I trained with them for a while. As soon as I was left alone with the books, I tore off and hid the relevant pages in case something went south, as it did.”
“Congratulations. First sensible choice in the whole story,” Alex said mockingly.
I glared at my bother. “Alex…” I said in a soft tone. I agree with him, but I have a soft spot for Aiden. He has already paid more than enough for those choices.
Aiden continued the story, his voice now in almost a whisper. “One day, he just came up to me and out of nowhere injected me wolfsbane and made that call. I thought it had been because of the book but then he began talking about you. How he loved you and he would make you his true mate. I had never seen such a crazed person.”
“He is definitely insane, and a fuc-” I looked at Aiden. What I want to say is definitely not something I would want him to repeat. I cleared my throat. “He is a very bad person.”
Aiden laughed, probably reading my mind but then went serious. “I am sorry for causing you so many problems.”
“So what does the book say? It better be good,” said my brother.
My brother’s voice made me jump on my seat a little. He was definitely upset. Angry Alex is scary and Elena is not here to calm him down.
Aiden smirked seemed unfazed, exciting shining in his eyes. “The books, actually. Checking the Blood Moon Pack’s book I found some interesting coincidences in the dates. They used a more exact lunar calendar. I found another book about it. It turns out that the year X1-5 corresponds to the year before Jolene was born.”
“Do share,” said Alex.
“Mom. You should read this.” He pulled some folded pages from the hidden pocket in his backpack.
I began reading out loud.
