Chapter 12

When I woke up again, Short and Eduardus were talking with worried looks. I furrowed my eyebrows and cleared my dry throat. Both men snapped their attention over to me and smiled.
“How are you feeling?” Short questioned.
I sighed, “Not the greatest. I’m exhausted.”
“I can tell, we think we know what’s wrong with you.”
“Really? What’s wrong then?”
Eduardus released a breath, “You’re feeling Edgar’ pain.”
I frowned, my eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “But I rejected him six months ago, I shouldn’t feel anything. I hadn’t felt anything until I came here.”
“I know, but did my brother accept the rejection?”
I froze, “No.”
“Then there’s the problem. For those six months you were nowhere near our pack, so, the bond was weakened and cut off. Now that you’re here and he’s somewhere close to here, the bond is growing stronger.” He explained.
“That doesn’t explain the fact I hadn’t felt any of his emotions or pain when I was here.”
“That’s because of the curse, but I’ll let him explain that all to you. But we’ve been thinking over everything and connecting the dots.”
“We think Jefferson has him somewhere in the dungeon. We tried getting down there today but it was locked and none of the guards had the key. Only Jefferson does. Not only that, but your bond is now growing stronger, and he’s been acting weirder and he flipped when you told him you can feel the pain. Also, he smells like him each time he leaves the dungeon and the beginning always smells like Edgar.”
I paled, “So is he….”
“Yes, he’s torturing him.”
I ran my hand through my hair, we’ve been here for two days and we hadn’t even realized that Edgar was in the dungeon. We’ve been so ignorant towards all of the hints, I felt dumb. I bit my lip, trying to figure out how to get the key from Jefferson.
“Get the key from that asshole and capture him while you’re at it. I’m done with his bullshit, he did this to a rogue pup before. He is to be put to death.” I growled.
Short grinned, “Finally, I get to kill him.”
Before they both walked out I got them to help me out of the bed. No way in hell am I going to lay here while Edgar is being beaten.
“How do I block the bond? I need to do this if I want to help.” I asked Eduardus.
“You know how to block someone from mind-linking you?” He questioned.
I nodded.
“It’s the same thing, except, imagine a string of sorts connecting you to Edgar. Imagine somebody cutting it.”
I closed my eyes and did just that, I winced when I felt the tie break. Once I was able to regain my breath I nodded at them and started walking out.
Short sighed and grabbed me, “Your ass is hanging out.”
I blushed and sprinted back into the room. Both of them were chuckling while my face just got redder.
“Can you get me something?” I shrieked.
“We brought clothes, we knew you would want to help.” Short grinned.
I shook my head, I snatched the clothes and walked into the bathroom. Once I was dressed, I followed them out of the infirmary.
My mind was racing with thoughts, fear sneaked its way into my heart. I wanted to know how long Edgar has been in there for. I ran my hand through my hair, if he has been missing for three months then he must of been down there for three months.
I closed my eyes and focused on him, “We’re coming soon, Edgar. Just hang in there.” I mind-linked him before cutting the bond again.
