I groaned as I opened my eyes, almost immediately, I closed them. After a few more tries, they finally adjusted to the light. I furrowed my eyebrows at the room, this isn’t Edgar’ room.
“Ah, you’re up.”
I looked over to see Short sitting in a chair, his torso was wrapped in bandages that had a little blood on them.
“What the hell happened?” I asked.
“I’ll give you a few minutes to remember. Oh and Edgar’ wolf is an asshole.” He sighed.
I rolled my eyes, I thought over everything for a few a minutes. When it all came rushing back to me, I groaned. Damn headache.
“Nevermind, I remember.” I sighed.
I then panicked, “Where is Edgar?”
“He’s out cold in a hospital bed. His wolf decided to give him control right when they laid him down on a gurney. He started yelling and fighting them, I’ve never seen him more afraid. He had no idea where he was and kept screaming for you. They ended up sedating him. He caused a few injuries.” He explained.
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair, I have to go see him. I can’t begin to imagine how terrifying that was for him. He won’t let anyone touch him unless it’s me or as long as I am around.
I started to get up, but Short quickly ran over and gently pinned me down. I hissed in pain at the stinging and burning sensation on my back. I opened my eyes again to see Short slowly sitting down in the chair.
I noticed a little more blood was now on his bandages and his panting. I also frowned at how pale he had suddenly grown.
“Hey, why don’t you go and get some rest? I’ll be fine here.” I suggested.
He opened one eye and frowned, “No. I’m not leaving you here alone. Last time I did that, you had a mental breakdown in the bathroom.”
“That was almost eight months ago.” I argued.
“Yes, but you still have your PTSD, I don’t want it to suddenly hit and have you screaming in the bathroom again.” He replied calmly.
“I won’t.”
“Melanie…”
I sighed, “Fine. But stop moving and get new bandages.”
He stuck his tongue out at me, I rolled my eyes at him. We sat there in silence for a little while longer until his mate walked in.
She smiled at me, “Feeling better?”
“Yeah, where’s Edgar? Is he okay?” I asked.
“He’s fine, he should be up soon, which is putting many of us on edge.” She replied.
I furrowed my eyebrows, “Why?”
“We don’t know if he’ll freak out or be fine. His brother is watching over him right now and I also have his parents in the waiting room. Though, I’m not letting them see him. His wolf may be pretty much over it, but Edgar isn’t.” She explained.
“Can he come in here and lay on the other bed? That might help.”
“Yeah, once he’s okay again. Right now, we don’t want his wound opening again. Speaking of which, Short, get your ass into your hospital room. You’re bleeding again!”
I chuckled at his horrified face, he frowned before shaking his head.
“I’m not leaving her alone, she’s my god daughter, I promised to protect her.” He stated.
His mate smiled softly, “I know, but I’m sure she’ll be fine. I’ll have a nurse watch over her. But you seriously need to get your wounds stitched shut again and you need to rest. On a bed.”
“Why not that one over there?”
“Edgar will be laying there once he’s awake.”
He gave her a stubborn look before she yanked him off the chair. She told me a nurse will be in shortly before leaving.
I sighed, my mind drifted off to Edgar’ parents. If he sees them, then he’s going to freak out even more. He’s already unstable and his PTSD won this time. I don’t think seeing his past abusers is going to help. Unless his wolf comes out again.
“Melanie!”
“Alpha, your ass is hanging out! Sit down!”
“No! Where’s my mate?”
“Alpha, please-
“Don’t touch me!”
I swallowed, “Edgar, I’m in here!”
Seconds later, Edgar burst through the door and sprinted over to me. I couldn’t even process what was happening before he crawled into the bed with me and curled up against me. I looked over as a few nurses ran in, their eyes wide and stress obvious on their faces.
The one nurse, a blond woman, sighed in relief.
“He should get a therapist.” She breathed.
I nodded, “I can’t get him to go into a room with one. He’ll freak out.”
“Figures. He’s acting childish.” She grumbled.
I narrowed my eyes, “He had PTSD from being traumatized. You can’t just go ahead and try to grab him, it makes his fear worse. Instead of seeing you, he’s seeing the person that caused this. Yelling never helps him.”
“The only reason he’s allowing me to touch him is one, I’m his mate. Two, I’ve been there every step of the way and proved to him that I would never hurt him. Three, he trusts me. Four, he feels safe around me.”
“He doesn’t know you, doesn’t know if you’ll hurt him or not. He needs someone with patience, if you’re a nurse, you should have some. Not only that, but you went to medical school, didn’t you? You should have learned about this. Or at least learned about it in high school or whatever.” I snapped.
She stared at me with annoyance, “He’s a grown man. He should learn to suck it up.”
“You’re a grown woman, you should learn to have some compassion.” I retorted.
“Oh, and while you’re learning, get your head out of your ass.”
I could tell I was pissing her off, but I didn’t care. How could someone not have any compassion for him? He has been through enough as it is and now he has a cold hearted nurse. This is the reason we have so many bullies now a days.
They learn from adults like her. Granted, some learn from other people or do it themselves, but adults are the main reason. She disgusted me.
“Get the hell out before I make sure you lose your job.” I ordered.
She opened her mouth to say something, but the two nurses behind her, grabbed her. All three flashed me irritated looks before slamming the door shut.
Edgar jumped and almost fell out of the bed, but I caught him just in time. I groaned as I helped him get his balance, he is not a light man.
“You okay?” I asked softly.
He nodded, “Just tired.”
“I know, but you need to relax. You’re shaking.” I smiled softly.
I frowned when I felt something wet on his hospital gown, I looked down to see blood soaking a section of it. I mentally cursed out those nurses for scaring him before calling a doctor in.
A man burst through the door and looked at us with concerned eyes.
“His wound opened up.” I explained.
He nodded and walked over, “Alpha, am I allowed to examine it?”
Edgar was about to say no when I gently grabbed his hand.
“He isn’t going to hurt you. It may hurt a little, but he doesn’t have control over that.”
He frowned at me, but allowed for the doctor to continue. After examining it, he grabbed a few medical tools and started stitching it up.
I was relieved that he had numbed it, if Edgar felt it, he would be freaking out right now.
Once he was done, I thanked him and made sure Edgar was comfortable as he fell asleep. I sighed and ran my fingers through his hair.
“What am I going to do with you?” I whispered, planting a kiss on his cheek.
