Chapter 18

— Kyle’s POV —

“Baby, lets go over there.”Nora tugged on my arm. I forced a smile and followed her. The elder’s grandson, Jonathan came here with a few people, following. I caught a glimpse of brown hair.

“I would like you to meet my mate, Miranda and Brant, my best friend along with his mate Madeline.” My ears perked up at the name and my eyes met her. She froze and stared at me. Why his mate? I’m her mate. Not him. I was shaking.

“Kyle, baby. Calm down.”Nora tried to calm me down. I growled and pushed her away, gently-ish. I was glaring at his hand on her back. She shook her head at me and walked away. I could tell she was about to cry. That Brant guy chased after her before giving me an angry glance. I followed them.

“What’s going on?”Nora asked, confused. I ignored her and continued to follow them. She called out my name. I caught up with them and saw that they were outside, in the garden. She was embracing him and he whispered into her ear. I dug my claws into my fist and tried to calm myself down but I couldn’t, only she could do that.

“Madeline.”I said, clearly. They turned around and she faced me. Brant was standing in front of her, protectively. She doesn’t need protection from me.

“What do you want?”She snapped, tears running down her cheeks. My eyes soften.

“Can I just talk to you?”I asked. She shook her head and muttered no. Her boyfriend was glaring at me and I glared back.

“Please.”I begged. Her eyes soften a bit and she nodded. She whispered something into his ear. He nodded and walked towards me. He passed me before shooting me another glare which I returned. He eyed me and looked at Madeline then left. I walked towards her.

I sighed and ran a hand through my hair and studied her. She looked beautiful even when she’s crying. Her blue eyes were bright and her skin was tan. She looked much older now and her hair was black. They dress she wore urged me to kiss her perfect plump lips. She was taller now and much more developed. She was curvy and had a body that made me want to take her, here and now. What do I say to a girl that I loved and still do?

I took a deep breath,”You look stunning.” I was expecting her to crack a smile but she didn’t. She was angry and I understand why. I made a mistake. A mistake that I will pay for everyday.

“Did you, you know, give birth?”I asked, scratching the back of my neck. She smiled at little and nodded.

“I did. Twins, a baby girl and boy.”I could tell she was thinking about them by the way she smiled. I wanted to meet them and try to develop a type of father relationship with them before he can do so.

“Can I see them?”I asked. She gave me a look. I was starting to think she wouldn’t let me see them.

She sighed,”Kyle, I’m not going to deny you of see your kids. I just don’t know how will they take it. You and I not being together won’t effect you from being the father to them.”I smiled. She has gotten wiser.

“Thank you.”

“You could see them tomorrow at lunch. Brant is going to be a work and I’m sure he’ll be okay with it. How does that sound?”She asked. I stared at her pink lips the entire time. I nodded.

“I miss you, Madeline.”I spoke softly. She looked at me sadly and took a shaky breath.

“It’s not going to work this time, Kyle. I’m not the little girl you once knew. If you think I’m going to leave Brant and run back into your arms, your wrong.”She shook her head. I felt me eyes well up and reached out for her.

“I’m sorry. I really am. Nothing is the same without you. My parents barely talk to me and the pack is devastated. They need you. I need you.”I stated, hurt. I hoped she would change her mind and coming back to me.

“That’s not how it works. Do you think I’m going to come back to be hurt again?”She huffed, angrily.

I quickly shook my head, “No! I promise I won’t hurt you.”

“Yeah, well its a little to late for that.”She started to walk pass me. I couldn’t help but notice how hurt and angry she was. This was all my fault. If I hadn’t been so stupid, none of this would happen.”

She stopped a foot or two away from me and said,”Just come by at 12:30 for the kids and don’t hurt them.” I watched as she walked away from me again. Her voice was hoarse and her eyes were red. I sighed for the third time today and ran my hand down my face, taking deep breaths. I was trying to not cry.

“Kyle.”Nora’s annoying voice ring in my ears. I wanted her to go away. I want to be alone.

“What?”I snapped. She coward back and frowned. I felt bad for snapping at her. It’s just I’m not in a good mood.

“Can I ask you something?”She asked. I eyed her before nodding, hesitantly.

She took a shaky breath,”Was that your mate?”

I nodded. She gave me look, that was telling me to continue.

“She’s my mate. We were together three years ago when I was eighteen and she was fiften. A few months later, she was pregnant with my children and we got into a fight. She left for a while and stayed at her parents house. During the time she left, I slept with another girl.”She gasped in shock but gave me a sad look.

I continued,”She found out and left me. Ever since then nothing’s been the same. My parents and my wolf doesn’t talk to me. The whole pack was and still is upset.”

She frowned and began to walk away from me. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and called out her name but she continued to walk away. She turned around.

“We over.”She smiled and turned around, walking away. I walked as she disappeared back into the ballroom. What the fuck? I groaned, throwing my head back and looking up into the moon light. Why me?
