Chapter 22

“I’m sorry, Brant.”I said, trailing behind him. He was upset about my little feelings for Kyle.”Brant.”I grabbed his wrist and forced him to turn around. He had a frown on his face and his eyes held hurt and anger in them.

“What?”He sounded angry. My lips were placed in a frown. I don’t like him being mad at me.

“Listen, he was my first love and my mate but I don’t feel that way about him. I have lukewarm feelings for him. Which is no way near how I feel about you. I can’t deny that I don’t feel a slight attraction towards him; that’s probably because of him being my mate. What I feel with you is more stronger than what I feel with him. I love you, Brant.”I said, my eyes welling with tears. His eyes soften and he pulled me into his arms. I wrapped my arms around him and a few of my tears escaped from my eyes.

“I’m sorry for being angry with you. It’s-I-I just get jealous. I thought you were going to leave me for him and I don’t want you to leave me.”He whispered in my hair. I nodded into his chest and sighed. We stood their for a while until we pulled away. I smiled at him and he leaned down to peck my lips.

“My mom is probably wondering where we are. Come one.”He held his hand out and I took it. I really do love Brant. He is like my second chance at love. The only reason I love Kyle was because he’s my mate. I didn’t choose him or completely fall in love with him. I was fifteen and I didn’t understand what love is. I thought he was the only one for me but I guess I was wrong. I took my time to fall in love with Brant unlike what I did with Kyle.

“Ah, there you two are. I was looking all over for you.”His mother, Jasmine said with a warm smile on her face. I smiled at her and glanced at Brant who looked much happier than before.”Brant, your father wants to a have a word with you.”

He nodded and kissed my cheek.”I’ll be back.”He said in a James Bond voice. I rolled my eyes playfully as he walked away.

“How are you two?”She asked as we walked into the den.”I couldn’t help but overhear that your mate is back. How do you feel about that?”

“We’re doing great. Brant is my mate, not Kyle. I-I mean when I was fifteen, I wanted Kyle to come back to me and be my mate again but that never happened. I realized I don’t need Kyle. I just like the thought of having someone meant for me but now I learned that not everything is perfect and goes the way it’s planned. I feel like Brant is my other chance of happiness.”I told, truthfully.

She smiled,”I’m glad my son found you.”I looked at her with a smile and nodded.

“I am too.”

“Mommy!Mommy!”I heard the kids chant as they jumped on the bed. They stopped jumping and came around me. Sofia was on my right side and Edwin was laying on top of me, snuggling into my chest.

“Yes?”I answered sleepily with my eyes slightly open. I looked at Brant who was up and laying on his side looking at us. I smiled at him and turned to the kids.

“We’re hungry.”Sofia said my ear. I put my left hand on Edwin’s back and my right arm around Sofia.

“Well first you guys have to brush your teeth.”I said and they scrambled to the bathroom. I swung my feet over to the edge of the bed and felt the cold wooden floor.

“Where are you going?”I looked behind me and saw Brant with a lazy smile on his face.

“I’m going to make breakfast.”I leaned over and pecked his cheek. I got up and walked out of the room. I walked to the main bathroom where the kids were brushing their teeth. I brushed my teeth with them and after we walked downstairs.

Today I was convinced by Colt and the kids of course to join them at Kyle’s house. That means we have to go all the way but to my hometown to his house. I’m kind of excited. It would be great to see my friends and how everything is going.

Brant is a little upset about me going with Kyle. As much as I trust Kyle with our kids, I still want to be there with them. I had our bags packed from the night before and all we are just waiting is for Kyle to come pick us up.

“Do you really have to go?”Brant whined like a little child. I giggled and nodded.

“It would be nice to go back to where I was born. I miss there and I can’t be away from the kids for too long.”I told and kissed his cheek. The door bell rang and the kids raced to the door, trying to open it. I walked to the door and opened it. I smiled as the kids attacked Kyle with hugs and kisses. He looked up to me and smiled.

“Ready?”He asked. I nod and grab our bags which weren’t a lot. He helped me place them in the trunk of his black SUV. I looked at the front door where Brant was standing with a frown and I walked over to him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and smiled slightly, leaning in to kiss him. I felt him smile in the kiss and I was happy that he wasn’t frowning anymore. We pulled away and held on to each other for a while until I thought it was time to go.

“Call me when you get there, okay?”He said and stared into my eyes.

“Okay.”I smiled as he placed a kiss on my forehead.”I love you.”

“I love you too.”

I walked over to the SUV and saw Kyle sitting in the front seat with an annoyed look. I noticed that he already put the kids in the car seat in the back. I climbed into the passenger seat and place my hand over Kyle’s.”Are you okay?”

He looked at me and smiled slightly,”Yeah.”I couldn’t see his eyes because he had on a pair of dark Ray bans. I removed my hand from on top of his and looked in the back to check on the kids. They were looking at each other, having a staring contest.

“You know you two keep doing that, your eyes will stay like that.”I told and they looked at me, rubbing their eyes.

“Will it really stay like that, daddy?”Sofia asked, surprising me.They normally call him by his name not daddy. I saw Kyle’s smile widen and he glanced at them, keeping his eyes on the road.

“Yes, it would. So listen to your mother.”He said, his voice somewhat deep. I took my time to study him. He looks much older than he did when we were younger. He had a bit of stubble on his jaw and he got more muscular, not that he wasn’t muscular when we were younger.”What?”

“What do you mean?”I asked, still looking at him.

“You’re staring at me like if I’m a piece of meat.”He joked, chuckling. I slapped his bicep and waited until he stopped laughing.

“You look different.”I said, softly with my head tilted to the side.

“A good different or a bad different?”He teased.

“Definitely a good different. You look more like a man.”I teased back and he chuckled.

“Wasn’t I a man before?”He raised his eyebrow and smirked.

I rolled my eyes.”Not really.” He pouted and continued driving. He stopped talking for a while and I knew he was just playing with me. I grabbed his hand and he glanced at me, squeezing my hand.”Maybe you were a man back then but now you look more mature.”

“I could say the same for you, Madeline. You’ve grown into a beautiful woman.”He flashed me a smile and I blushed, a little. I tried now to pay attention to him and looked at the kids in the back seat. They were sleeping.”Are you blushing?”

“Shush.”I hushed him and he frowns, confused.”The twins are sleeping.”

His confused look turns to a smile. Holding Kyle’s hand makes me feel disloyal to Brant but friends can hold hands, right?

After ten long hours pass, we are in warm North Carolina and the pack house comes in view. It looked a bit different now. It looked more like a little community with houses surrounding the big pack house. Kyle parks in front of the house and my heart is beating fast. He glances at me.

“We don’t have to go right now. We could wait a while.”He says and I shake my head.”I can hear you heart beat.”

“No, we have to go. I can’t stay here forever. I have to face them.”I said nervously looking at the house and the forming of pack members waiting outside for us.
